New York Yankees RP Luis Ayala, 3B Eric Chavez, SP Bartolo Colon, SP Freddy Garcia, OF Andruw Jones, RP Damaso Marte, RP Sergio Mitre and DH Jorge Posada have filed for free agency, according to the players union.

The New York Yankees declined to exercise RP Damaso Marte's $4 million option for next season Wednesday, Oct. 19, making him a free agent. He will receive a $250,000 buyout.

New York Yankees RP Damaso Marte (shoulder) said Saturday, April 30, that he was able to play catch for the first time earlier this week from about 90 feet away. Marte plans to increase the distance the next time he throws. He believes he will throw again at some point next week.
