Updating a previous item, Booth Newspapers' Danny Knobler reports there were strong suggestions made March 3 that Detroit Tigers RP Matt Mantei (shoulder) would end his comeback attempt and retire. "I think he's going to think about things," manager Jim Leyland said. "I question very much whether he's going to want to go through a lot of treatment or rehab." Mantei left camp March 2 after experiencing right shoulder discomfort.

Jon Paul Morosi, of the Detroit Free Press, reports Detroit Tigers RP Matt Mantei (arm) left the Tigers' spring training camp to receive an examination on his throwing arm. Mantei started feeling discomfort in his arm after he pitched Sunday, March 2, in Grapefruit League play.

Mantei has suffered injuries every year he has pitched in the Major Leagues and said during Spring Training he would retire if he suffered another long-term injury.
