Brian McTaggart of The Houston Chronicle reports Houston Astros P Brandon Backe struck out the side on nine pitches in the eighth inning of Thursday's game with the Milwaukee Brewers. He became the first Astros pitcher to strike out the side on nine pitches since Mike Magnante did it against Colorado on Aug. 22, 1997.
