Free-agent RP Brad Lidge (Nationals) is unsure if he will retire or try to return to another team to finish out this season. "I am healthy," Lidge said, "but based on the path I would have to take to get back to the bigs this year I am not sure I will be jumping back in right now. No official decision one way or another, but mostly I am not happy that I rushed back from surgery before I was ready only to be designated for assignment a couple of days later."

The Washington Nationals have designated RP Brad Lidge for assignment. In a corresponding move, the team activated RP Ryan Mattheus (foot) from the 15-day disabled list.

Washington Nationals RP Brad Lidge will be available to pitch in a setup role after coming off the disabled list Thursday, June 7. RP Ryan Mattheus (foot) threw a successful simulated game Friday, June 8, and he could return to the bullpen soon, too. He will begin a rehab assignment with Single-A Potomac Sunday, June 10.

Washington Nationals manager Davey Johnson said RP Tyler Clippard will remain the closer until RP Drew Storen (elbow) comes back. RP Brad Lidge will serve as a setup man along with RP Sean Burnett.

Washington Nationals RP Brad Lidge (hernia) plans to make two more rehab outings with Single-A Potomac, one inning Wednesday, June 6, and one Friday, June 8. He could rejoin the team over the weekend or Monday, June 11. Lidge felt fine Monday, June 4, despite throwing only 10 of his 22 pitches for strikes. He will likely be eased into a setup role, with RP Tyler Clippard staying in the closer role.
