The team is not seriously considering using SP Pedro Martinez as a closer. "We can't rely on Brad Lidge to be the ninth-inning guy. It's not because we don't like him. We have a tremendous amount of respect for him. He was the guy standing when we won the World Series. But the fact of the matter is, he hasn't demonstrated he can do that now," Amaro said. Amaro also mentioned RPs Tyler Walker and J.C. Romero as pitchers who could record outs in the ninth inning. P Chan Ho Park could also enter the mix at some point. The team does not expect RP Brett Myers (shoulder) to assume the closer's role if he makes a successful return from an injured shoulder.

I'll bring anybody in the game, all right? I don't care. Really. When you get right down to it, you want me to tell you the truth? I'm not afraid or nothing like that. That's no big deal. He might be in there tonight. He might be. He might not." Pitching coach Rich Dubee said Lidge's mechanics are fine, but his command has been off.
