Broncos | D-Line Rich in Experience

Tue, 26 Jul 2005 21:33:11 -0700

Andrew Mason, of DenverBroncos.com, reports overall, the Denver Broncos have nine defensive linemen who have started at least eight games in the past two years - DLs Courtney Brown, Ebenezer Ekuban, Michael Myers, Gerard Warren, Trevor Pryce, John Engelberger and returning veterans Marco Coleman, Monsanto Pope and Mario Fatafehi. Add in 35-year-old DL Raylee Johnson and 32-year-old DL Luther Elliss - both of whom were longtime starters and perennial standouts in San Diego and Detroit, respectively - and the defensive line possesses an embarrassment of riches when it comes to experience. Now comes the task of sewing these parts into a unit, and defining roles for those who eventually make the team. "It just comes down to us developing that situation into a rotation, which we think is the key to defensive-line play, being able to rotate guys and keep us healthy," defensive coordinator Larry Coyer said. "It's going to be really competitive."

Broncos | Ex-Browns Have Been Impressing GM, Coordinator

Tue, 26 Jul 2005 10:23:54 -0700

Andrew Mason, of DenverBroncos.com, reports after seeing Denver Broncos DLs Courtney Brown, Ebenezer Ekuban, Gerard Warren and Michael Myers in offseason minicamps, the four ex-Cleveland Browns have been everything Broncos general manager Ted Sundquist and defensive coordinator Larry Coyer has expected. "I can't wait to get them out on the field and let them just play ball," said Sundquist. "I've been very impressed with these guys," Coyer said. "Each one of them knows that the Cleveland Browns was one situation and now it's the Denver Broncos, it's another situation. These guys have come in here and jumped into our program and they've done nothing more than become invisible -- which I think is the greatest compliment you can pay them. They've busted their butts."

Broncos | Myers Running with First Team Ahead of Warren

Thu, 07 Jul 2005 05:24:09 -0700

Lee Rasizer, of the Rocky Mountain News, reports Denver Broncos DT Michael Myers is practicing with the first team defense at nose tackle in the base defense ahead of DT Gerard Warren. Myers chalks it up to his familiarity with the defensive-line scheme, which is strikingly similar to the ones he was a part of during six seasons with the Dallas Cowboys and Cleveland Browns. Warren sees it another way, but he won't complain. Defensive coordinator Larry Coyer denied any ulterior motive regarding Warren, who has been with the first-team nickel unit.

"It just comes down to us developing that situation into a rotation, which we think is the key to defensive-line play, being able to rotate guys and keep us healthy. It's going to be really competitive."
