Fri, 29 Mar 2013 12:48:03 -0700 The New York Mets selected the contracts of RPs LaTroy Hawkins, Scott Rice and Scott Atchison and OF Marlon Byrd Friday, March 29. They also outrighted SS Reese Havens and RP Darin Gorski to the minors.
Fri, 01 Mar 2013 15:41:53 -0800 New York Mets RPs LaTroy Hawkins, Pedro Feliciano and Tim Byrdak (shoulder) have to be told by March 26 whether they've made the roster or they'll earn $100,000 to be sent to the minors. The Mets could also choose to flat out release them. Hawkins appears to be a lock for the bullpen and Feliciano is a leading contender as well. Byrdak's deadline is a non-issue because the team signed him knowing he wouldn't be ready for the start of the season.
Tue, 26 Feb 2013 13:37:22 -0800 New York Mets RP LaTroy Hawkins, who has yet to throw in a spring game, and SP Shaun Marcum are taking their time this spring and are not injured at all. Marcum made his spring debut last weekend.
Tue, 12 Feb 2013 10:28:17 -0800 New York Mets RP Frank Francisco (elbow) is dealing with right elbow inflammation and is being held back from throwing. Francisco had a bone spur removed from his elbow in December, and manager Terry Collins said the inflammation isn't unexpected. If Francisco can't be ready for the start of the season, RPs Bobby Parnell and Brandon Lyon are closing candidates. RPs LaTroy Hawkins and Josh Edgin would also get looks in the ninth-inning in spring training.
Mon, 11 Feb 2013 15:53:27 -0800 New York Mets RPs LaTroy Hawkins and Pedro Feliciano can make $1 million each if they make the opening day roster and up to $300,000 in performance bonuses apiece. Both relievers will earn the full amount if they make at least 65 appearances. Hawkins can request his release if he's not on the active roster by March 26. RP Brandon Lyon can make an extra $1.65 million in incentives.
Fri, 01 Feb 2013 12:06:52 -0800 New York Mets RP Frank Francisco's hold on the closer role heading into spring training is not firm, with the club looking for more bullpen help after adding RPs Scott Atchison and LaTroy Hawkins recently. The remaining options for the Mets are free-agent RP Jose Valverde (Tigers), Brian Wilson (Giants), Brandon Lyon (Blue Jays) and Francisco Rodriguez (Brewers). Valverde and Rodriguez are both represented by Scott Boras, and New York has made it clear that they won't overpay for another bullpen piece. General manager Sandy Alderson has made it clear that he is not committed to using Francisco as the primary closer this season. Alderson even went as far as saying he isn't "terribly comfortable" with Francisco being the opening day closer.
Fantasy Tip: Clearly, the Mets aren't happy with settling for Francisco as their closer for the year. All indications are that they will create as much competition for the ninth-inning role in spring training as possible. Whether it be Bobby Parnell, Hawkins or an outside candidate, the role won't be defined anytime soon. Consider Francisco a low-end closing option in your draft, and if you wind up with him on your roster, it would be smart to handcuff him to another closing option in New York's bullpen.
Thu, 31 Jan 2013 01:23:22 -0800 The New York Mets have signed free-agent RP LaTroy Hawkins (Angels) to a minor league contract that includes an invitation to spring training. No financial terms were disclosed.
Sat, 28 Jul 2012 12:17:10 -0700 The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim's acquisition of SP Zack Greinke could mean that RP LaTroy Hawkins, RP Jason Isringhausen or RP Hisanori Takahashi could be traded or released.
Wed, 13 Jun 2012 20:54:49 -0700 Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Jerome Williams received a racial epithet from a follower on his official Twitter account following his loss Tuesday, June 12, against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Williams showed his maturity after the ugly incident. "You've got some ignorant people out there," Williams said. "I went through so much stuff like that when I was growing up - it doesn't bother me anymore. It did kind of tick me off, and when I was younger, I used to lash out, wanting to fight every time. Now, knowing what's going on, I won't lash out. Just be the bigger man and walk away." Several teammates, including RP LaTroy Hawkins and C Bobby Wilson defended their teammate on Twitter.
Fri, 08 Jun 2012 18:53:34 -0700 Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim RP LaTroy Hawkins (finger) will come off the 15-day disabled list Saturday, June 9. |
