Sun, 30 Nov 2008 16:59:31 -0800 The Boston Globe's Tony Massarotti, in the "Extra Bases" blog at boston.com, reports Japanese SP Junichi Tazawa is expected to begin his professional career with the Boston Red Sox in the minor leagues. The team feels he needs additional experience even though he would be on the 40-man roster. It isn't clear yet whether he would start or relieve in the long-term, but one evaluator felt Tazawa would at least be as good as former major league P Shigetoshi Hasegawa.

"I had some offers from other teams, but have decided to retire," Hasegawa said. "Unless I'm in perfect shape mentally and physically, I wouldn't be able to be an important part of a team."
