Free-agent RP Eddie Guardado (Rangers) hasn't officially announced his retirement, but is unlikely to pitch again, according to Richard Durrett of ESPNDallas.com. "I think I'm done, man, I think I'm done," he said. "I'm fine with it. I had a great run, no doubt." Guardado said he would like to remain in baseball in some capacity, although he isn't sure what that would be or when.

Updating a previous item, The Washington Post reports other teams have contacted free-agent RP Eddie Guardado (Nationals), who was released by the Washington Nationals Thursday, March 11. Guardado's agent, Kevin Kohler, said Guardado has received calls from several teams interested in his services, either as a pitcher or in a front office or coaching capacity. Guardado plans on mulling his options, including simply staying with his family.

Brian McTaggart, of MLB.com, reports Washington Nationals Ps Shairon Martis, Joel Peralta, Matt Capps and Eddie Guardado were all roughed up in their spring debuts against the Houston Astros Thursday, March 4. Martis allowed six hits and six runs in just 1 1/3 innings, Peralta gave up three hits and three runs in two-thirds of an inning, Capps allowed three hits and two runs in one inning and Guardado gave up three runs and four hits in one inning of work.

Nationals.MLB.com's Bill Ladson reports, while it's likely Washington Nationals RP Eddie Guardado will be a setup man, Guardado said he would like the chance to close. "The Nationals came to me with open arms and I really respect that. I said, "You know what: I kind of like that idea. They are giving me a chance to close again. I still have the heart to play. That's the biggest thing," Guardado said.
