Ronald Blum, of the Associated Press, reports former Seattle Mariners SP Jeff Fassero announced his retirement Friday, Feb. 9. Fassero was cut by the San Francisco Giants in May 2006. He had a workout with the Los Angeles Dodgers Friday, Feb. 2, but did not catch on with the team. He finishes his 16-year career with a 121-124 record, a 4.11 ERA and 25 saves.

The Associated Press reports the San Francisco Giants designated SP Jeff Fassero for assignment on Monday, May 8. The team now has 10 days to decide whether to trade or release Fassero.

Updating an earlier report, the Associated Press reports San Francisco Giants RP Jeff Fassero received a one-year, $750,000 contract. He can earn an additional $100,000 in performance bonuses. He made $620,000 this past year, including $120,000 in bonuses.
