"That may very well have been a contributing factor to what he was feeling on the lateral joint of the elbow," Royals trainer Nick Swartz said. "They did go in and look at that joint. It had quite a bit of inflammation."

Asencio will undergo arthroscopic surgery to clean out the joint on the outside of his right elbow, trainer Nick Swartz said. The AP’s Tim Korte reports Kansas City Royals SP Miguel Asencio (elbow) was placed on the 15-day disabled list Wednesday due to swelling in his right elbow. The move was retroactive to May 15. Asencio first complained his elbow was sore and swollen on May 17, two day s after pitching, but a subsequent MRI exam came back negative. However, it wasn’t until May 21 that Asencio was able to bend his arm. Asencio had been scheduled to start Wednesday, but SP Chris George instead started.
