Brewers | Ron Roenicke defends decision to start Shaun Marcum

Sun, 16 Oct 2011 11:13:38 -0700

Milwaukee Brewers manager Ron Roenicke said he decided to start SP Shaun Marcum in Game 6 of the NLCS instead of SP Yovani Gallardo on short rest because victories would be necessary in both games for the Brewers to advance to the World Series anyway. "Yo is not an option," Roenicke said. "You guys talk about Yo, and coming back on three days' rest. We have to win tomorrow and the next day. I don't know why I would bring back Yo to win tomorrow when it would hurt us then for the next day and not being able to win. I don't know if there's a difference there. I think it makes sense to keep Yo on his basic rest." If Gallardo had started Game 6 and won, Roenicke would have had to choose between Marcum on extra rest or SP Randy Wolf on short rest for Game 7.

Brewers | Zack Greinke could pitch in Game 2

Thu, 29 Sep 2011 11:27:30 -0700

Milwaukee Brewers manager Ron Roenicke said the team is considering whether to use SP Zack Greinke in Game 2 of the Divisional Series against the Arizona Diamondbacks. "I would need Greinke to really convince me that his low pitch count (Wednesday vs. Pittsburgh) would allow him to be 100 percent," Roenicke said. If Greinke doesn't go in Game 2, either SPs Shaun Marcum or Randy Wolf would pitch.
