San Francisco 49ers DL Ricky Jean-Francois and DE Will Tukuafu could compete for the starting left defensive end job during training camp if the team moves DE Isaac Sopoaga to nose tackle. The team could also re-sign impending Demetric Evans during free agency and allow him to coompete for the job.

David Elfin, of The Washington Times, reports Washington Redskins DE Demetric Evans, who is an impending free agent, said he would like to re-sign with the Redskins but wants to sign with a team that will give him the chance to start. "I've proven I can start in one of the toughest divisions in football. I don't want to be a backup anymore. I started in 2005 at tackle when [DT Cornelius Griffin] was hurt, and I started at end when [DE Phillip Daniels] was hurt in 2004 and again last year. I want to stay in Washington, but I want to be a starter," Evans said. The Redskins are expected to meet with Evans' agent at the NFL Combine to discuss his future with the team.

Evans has made noticeable improvements over the past two seasons with the team and could see his playing time increase at both defensive end spots as the season wears on. He is willing to move to defensive tackle, but he is not the ideal size or shape for the position.

Gary Fitzgerald, of Redskins.com, reports Washington Redskins DE Demetric Evans is working hard to improve this offseason and is expected to be a key player in the club's defensive end rotation this year. "This year, I have an opportunity to be in an off-season program that I wasn't in last year," Evans said. "I'm focusing on getting better with my footwork and getting stronger. I'm focusing on improving my handwork. I want to better my pass-rush technique. I feel like I always know the plays. That's just study. As far as technique, I want to be flawless. I want to put myself into position to make more plays."
