Updating previous items, the Associated Press' Kristie Rieken reports New York Mets SP Dave Williams felt like he was rushing through his pitches while making his first appearance since Sept. 25 in his start Sunday, July 8. However, Williams didn't realize it until after he had exited the game. "I'm not really down on myself, I'm just kind of kicking myself for not slowing down," said Williams. "He got off with bad command," said Mets manager Willie Randolph. "He walked two or three guys (four). He just wasn't on. Obviously he was all over the place and struggled with his control." Williams' ERA is at 21.60 after his season debut.

Clarifying an earlier item, Sports Network reports the New York Mets had activated SP Dave Williams (neck) from the 15-day disabled list prior to his start Sunday, July 8. It was his first outing in the major leagues since he had surgery in late January to repair a herniated disc that affected his neck.

He must be off the 15-day disabled list on or by July 22. "As long as he's pitching in the Triple-A level... he's ready to step in when we need him," Mets manager Willie Randolph said.
