Fri, 14 Jun 2013 13:21:37 -0700 The St. Louis Cardinals have activated SP Jake Westbrook (elbow) from the 15-day disabled list and optioned SP Michael Wacha. Fantasy Tip: It's a bit of a hit for his fantasy owners, but Wacha's age probably was a factor in him getting the boot and St. Louis keeping Tyler Lyons up. Wacha could still be worth a stash in many deep-mixed leagues, but it'll make roster management a bit difficult.
Tue, 11 Jun 2013 15:33:15 -0700 St. Louis Cardinals SP Jake Westbrook (elbow) will be activated from the DL to start for the parent club on Friday, June 14. It's unclear what the club intends to do with SP Tyler Lyons, who was originally scheduled to start then. Fantasy Tip: Fantasy owners, feel free to insert Westbrook if you normally would. He faces the Miami Marlins in his first game back.
Mon, 10 Jun 2013 06:25:16 -0700 St. Louis Cardinals SP Jake Westbrook (elbow) threw 76 pitches in his final rehab start at Class A Peoria Sunday, June 9. He allowed a run on four hits in seven innings and recorded 14 groundouts and five strikeouts. SP Tyler Lyons is scheduled to start Friday, June 14, and Westbrook could take that turn.
Tue, 04 Jun 2013 19:46:59 -0700 St. Louis Cardinals SP Jake Westbrook (elbow) worked 3 2/3 innings in a minor-league rehab start for Class A Springfield Tuesday, June 4. He was very encouraged about his start, and said he will next pitch for Class A Peoria Sunday, June 9.
Sun, 02 Jun 2013 11:55:32 -0700 St. Louis Cardinals SP Jake Westbrook (elbow) threw a pain-free side session Saturday, June 1, and is scheduled to begin a rehab assignment with Double-A Springfield Tuesday, June 4. He will throw approximately 60 pitches and will probably make two rehab starts before being activated from the disabled list.
Thu, 30 May 2013 18:49:03 -0700 St. Louis Cardinals SP Jake Westbrook (elbow) expects to throw a side session Saturday, June 1, and hopes to pitch a rehab game Tuesday, June 4. He said he expects to make only a few rehab starts before rejoining the team.
Wed, 29 May 2013 15:20:47 -0700 St. Louis Cardinals SP Jake Westbrook (elbow) will throw an intense bullpen session Thursday, May 30, after last throwing 40 pitches off the mound Monday, May 27. He felt good enough to cancel his visit with Dr. James Andrews. RP Fernando Salas (shoulder) hasn't resumed throwing and doesn't know when he'll be cleared to do so. Fantasy Tip: Westbrook's return to the rotation appears close, but the team will likely be cautious and make him go on a short rehab assignment. Rookie Michael Wacha has filled in in the rotation for the time being, but because of his lack of professional experience, it would seem likely that they'll send him back down when Westbrook is ready.
Mon, 27 May 2013 08:23:04 -0700 Updating an earlier report, St. Louis Cardinals SP Jake Westbrook (elbow) canceled his appointment with Dr. James Andrews after he threw a bullpen session Monday, May 27. He said there is less irritation in his right elbow, and it's improving.
Mon, 27 May 2013 06:01:56 -0700 St. Louis Cardinals SP Jake Westbrook (elbow) will be examined by Dr. James Andrews Tuesday, May 28. He hasn't felt discomfort playing catch, but he does when he throws from a mound.
Sat, 25 May 2013 15:09:21 -0700 St. Louis Cardinals SP Jake Westbrook (elbow) is expected to get a second option on his injured elbow next week. Westbrook likely will have Dr. James Andrew look at the elbow.
