Mon, 20 May 2013 19:07:55 -0700 St. Louis Cardinals SP Jake Westbrook said he hopes to resume throwing off the mound Tuesday, May 21, after making 50 throws pain-free today from 90-feet.
Fri, 17 May 2013 15:06:55 -0700 St. Louis Cardinals SP Jake Westbrook (elbow) received an injection in his right elbow Friday, May 17, which will likely push back his return. Westbrook was initially scheduled to throw Friday. Fantasy Tip: John Gast should stick in the rotation for however much longer Westbrook remains on the infirmary. That might push some to consider him for their NL-only staff for the short term.
Mon, 13 May 2013 11:21:04 -0700 St. Louis Cardinals general manager John Mozeliak said SP Jake Westbrook (elbow) received a cortisone injection Friday, May 10, and that he shouldn't have to miss more than two starts. "It's really not that big of a deal," Mozeliak said. "It's just something that we didn't want to push it, didn't want it to become a big problem." Westbrook allowed three earned runs and nine hits in 5 1/3 innings in his last outing. Fantasy Tip: John Gast is a short-term option in NL -only formats. The short left-handed thrower touches the low 90s with his fastball and has a three-pitch repertoire that also features a changeup and curveball. He may be best suited for a role in the bullpen long term, however.
Mon, 13 May 2013 00:34:26 -0700 St. Louis Cardinals SP Jake Westbrook (elbow) was placed on the 15-day disabled list Sunday, May 12, with right elbow inflammation. Westbrook originally felt discomfort during his start May 8 in Wrigley Field, though the team gave him a couple days to determine if it persisted. "It's really not that big of a deal," general manager John Mozeliak said Sunday. "Didn't want to push it. Didn't want it to become a big problem." The Cardinals purchased the contract of SP John Gast from Triple-A Memphis, and he will start Tuesday, May 14, against the New York Mets. Fantasy Tip: All indications are this injury won't be anything as severe as the Chris Carpenter or Jason Motte season-ending injuries were, although Carpenter wants to return as a reliever. The Cardinals will definitely miss Westbrook's 2-1 record and 1.62 earned run average, but fantasy owners should expect Westbrook back by the end of May.

It was Westbrook's 15th career complete game, and he also had his 11th career RBI in the game.

Mon, 22 Oct 2012 08:47:01 -0700 St. Louis Cardinals SP Jake Westbrook (oblique) is likely to rejoin the starting rotation if the team makes the World Series.
Sat, 20 Oct 2012 10:55:18 -0700 St. Louis Cardinals manager Mike Matheny has not revealed what his starting rotation would look like if the team advances to the World Series. A possibility exists for SP Jake Westbrook (oblique) to replace SP Lance Lynn, who has allowed four runs in each of his two starts in the NLCS.
