Kristie Ackert, of the New York Daily News, reports former MLB SP David Wells thinks Major League Baseball should be stricter with their punishment for players who test positive for performance-enhancing drugs. "No 50-game suspension - ban them right away," Wells said. "That would stop (steroid use) in a heartbeat. Especially with the money they are giving out today. It would be incredible if they did that, you wouldn't have to worry about steroids or HGH." Wells also said statistics for players who have tested positive or admitted to using steroids should not be counted.

The New York Post's Mark Hale reports free-agent SP David Wells (Dodgers) said he's done playing but will not officially retire. "I'm not going to officially do it," Wells said of retiring. "I'm just going to just ride off into the sunset."

Los Angeles Dodgers SP David Wells (9-9) picked up his 239th career victory, Friday, Sept. 28, against the San Francisco Giants, passing Whitey Ford to move into sole possession of 13th place on the all-time victories list for lefthanded pitchers, according to the Associated Press. It was his 29th start of the season, only the second time in the last 11 years that he hasn't made at least 30 starts.
