Tue, 21 May 2013 16:48:15 -0700 San Francisco Giants SP Ryan Vogelsong (hand) will be out six to eight weeks after having successful surgery on his hand Tuesday, May 21. Fantasy Tip: Given Vogelsong's disappointing performance this year, you shouldn't be loyal any longer and hold onto him in a mixed league. The Giants have yet to name a rotation replacement, but it'll likely be a commodity only worth mentioning for NL managers.
Tue, 21 May 2013 11:11:40 -0700 San Francisco Giants SP Ryan Vogelsong (hand) will have surgery Tuesday, May 21, and he'll likely have pins inserted to stabilize his hand and help speed up the healing process. He broke two bones in his right pinkie and dislocated a knuckle that the training staff couldn't pop back into place. Fantasy Tip: This is very discouraging for Vogelsong and his owners, since it was easily his best start of what has been a disappointing season so far. It's safe to drop him in most mixed leagues. Shane Loux and Chad Gaudin are rotation candidates, but they don't inspire much excitement.
Tue, 21 May 2013 10:27:26 -0700 The San Francisco Giants placed Ryan Vogelsong (hand) and Santiago Casilla (knee) on the 15-day disabled list. They recalled 1B Brett Pill and RP Sandy Rosario from Class AAA Fresno. Fantasy Tip: It's yet to be determined who'll replace Vogelsong in the rotation for the next month-plus. Rosario probably isn't an option because he's only started two games at any level since 2009. Casilla's loss leaves Jeremy Affeldt as the chief setup man. Pill is still just NL-only depth.
Tue, 21 May 2013 05:05:23 -0700 San Francisco Giants SP Ryan Vogelsong (hand) suffered a fractured right hand after he was hit by a pitch Monday, May 20. Fantasy Tip: He'll probably be out at least two months, as it takes 4-6 weeks to heal. After that, he'll need 2-3 weeks to build his arm strength back up to pitch. The team doesn't have an obvious replacement. Shane Loux is 4-1 with a 3.68 ERA at Triple-A Fresno, but he's a 33-year-old journeyman. Chad Gaudin could be an option out of the bullpen. He has a 2.10 ERA and 24 K's in 25 2/3 innings.
Thu, 16 May 2013 16:15:09 -0700 San Francisco Giants SP Ryan Vogelsong will make his next scheduled start Monday, May 20. Fantasy Tip: Vogelsong has been awful this year with a 1-4 record and an 8.06 ERA in eight starts. Some are speculating that his involvement in the World Baseball Classic is the reason for his rough start, but that is just one theory. In mixed leagues, it's wise to look elsewhere until he can get straightened out.
Wed, 15 May 2013 20:34:39 -0700 San Francisco Giants SP Ryan Vogelsong was pounded for eight runs - three earned - and six hits with two walks over two innings in a loss Wednesday, May 15, against the Toronto Blue Jays. After the game, manager Bruce Bochy said there is no guarantee Vogelsong will take his next turn in the rotation Monday, May 20. Fantasy Tip: Vogelsong slipped to 1-4 while his ERA ballooned to 8.06 on the season. Right now, Vogelsong isn't even worth starting in the deepest of NL-only fantasy leagues. It's possible he could temporarily be moved to the bullpen until he gets his mechanics in order.
Sat, 11 May 2013 10:12:52 -0700 San Francisco Giants manager Bruce Bochy said SP Ryan Vogelsong will make his next scheduled start against the Toronto Blue Jays Wednesday, May 15. There were rumors that Vogelsong, who is 1-3 with a 7.78 ERA this year, would have his turn in the rotation skipped.
Sun, 17 Mar 2013 21:55:51 -0700 San Francisco Giants Ps Jeremy Affeldt and Ryan Vogelsong were back in camp Sunday, March 17, after Team USA was eliminated from the World Baseball Classic.
Sun, 10 Mar 2013 21:13:55 -0700 San Francisco Giants manager Bruce Bochy and SP Matt Cain said Sunday, March 10, that they watched SP Ryan Vogelsong's start for Team USA Saturday, March 9. Vogelsong pitched four-plus innings to pick up a win. "He threw the ball really well," Cain said. "That's typical Vogey. That's pretty awesome for him to get the win. I know he's pumped up about it."
Fri, 22 Feb 2013 11:33:30 -0800 San Francisco Giants SP Barry Zito will start the team's home opener this year against the St. Louis Cardinals April 5. Opening day SP Matt Cain will be followed in the rotation by SPs Madison Bumgarner and Tim Lincecum. SP Ryan Vogelsong will follow Zito as the fifth starter.
