The Journal Sentinel reports agent Kennard McGuire, expects his client, DB Bryant Westbrook, to re-sign with the Green Bay Packers. However, McGuire hasn't even heard from the Packers about a new contract with his client less than a week away from Westbrookl becoming an unrestricted free agent. McGuire thinks the two sides will agree on a one-year contract with a small signing bonus. "He likes Green Bay and I don't see much of anything else," McGuire said.

The Journal Sentinel reports the injury situation in the secondary could force the Green Bay Packers to use newly signed CB Bryant Westbrook in a backup role Sunday. He was signed Wednesday and has practiced all three days since his signing. "That was an excellent pickup for us," S Darren arper said. "He definitely will help us. He's running well. Just his experience will help, too."

Coach Dave Campo also mentioned that the Cowboys might consider a situational substitution pattern if Westbrook continues to struggle. “There’s always the possibility of that,” Campo said. “But at this point right now, that decision has not been made.” Campo said to say Westbrook was pulled from Sunday's game was a harsh assesment. Updating previous reports, the Dallas Morning News reports the deal CB Bryant Westbrook signed with the Dallas Cowboys will give him a signing bonus of $125,000 and a base salary of $875,000 this season. Thus, Westbrook will count $1 million against the Cowboys' salary cap. The Cowboys had discussed a six-year deal with him, but elected to go with a one-year deal when they realized it was becoming too complicated to complete a long-term deal.

Updating an earlier report, the Star-Telegram reports free agent CB Bryant Westbrook (Lions) is now expected to visit with the Dallas Cowboys Friday. Westbrook is reportedly 95 percent recovered from his Achilles' injury. He is due to visit Oakland Tuesday and he also has the San Diego Chargers and the Indianapolis Colts on his wish list, a source said.

Westbrook could come in for a visit, and possibly as early as next week. With him still recovering from his Achilles' injury, the Cowboys would be offering only a chance to jump-start his career, not a long-term commitment that would preclude them from possibly selecting a cornerback early in the NFL Draft.

The Detroit Free Press reports the Detroit Lions will allow CB Bryant Westbrook, a free agent, won't be tied to Detroit with a franchise or transition tag. Team president Matt Millen said Westbrook is coming off of an Achilles' injury and the team won't utilize either their franchise or transition tag on him. The team would like to re-sign him, but isn't interested in a long-term investment until he's sure he's back at full-strength.

According to the Detroit News, the Detroit Lions are taking a very close look at OL Stockar McDougle and CB Bryant Westbrook over the last two games. Of course others are also being evaluated to see where they stand for next season. Westbrook is in the final year of his contract and is coming off a ruptured left Achilles' tendon. He has not played well since his return to the lineup. "He's not 100 percent," coach Marty Mornhinweg said. "He's not close. These last two games will be important for him." When discussing McDougle, the coach said, "This off-season will be critically important for him. It will be critically important for many of our players, but him especially."
