Updating previous reports, Oakland Athletics SP Ben Sheets (elbow) may not pitch again after undergoing Tommy John surgery as well as surgery to repair two other tendons in his elbow, the Contra Costa Times' Joe Stiglich reports. His timetable to return would be 12 to 18 months, but he may retire.

Oakland Athletics SP Ben Sheets (elbow) had surgery to repair his flexor and pronator tendons as well as his ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow Tuesday, Aug. 10, MLB.com's Jane Lee reports. It was thought he only needed the flexor tendon repaired. He's expected to miss an entire year.

Oakland Athletics SP Ben Sheets (elbow) said he'll have surgery on his right elbow Monday, Aug. 9, the San Francisco Chronicle's Susan Slusser reports. Sheets believes the flexor tendon will be anchored to the bone differently than it was the first time, when it was sutured. He's uncertain if he'll pitch again.

Oakland Athletics SP Ben Sheets (elbow) will undergo surgery to fix a torn flexor tendon in his right elbow next week, according to MLB.com's Alex Espinoza. Sheets doesn't expect to be ready for Spring Training next year.

Oakland Athletics SP Ben Sheets' (elbow) tear in his elbow is "a lot worse" than his first elbow injury, according to The Mercury News' Joe Stiglich. Sheets is leaning toward having surgery on his arm, which would almost certainly put him out for the entire 2011 season. "Rule out the back end of next year. That's pushing it if I want to heal and not end up here again," Sheets said. "Looking back, your arm tells you everything you need to know. And my arm was telling me the whole time I just wasn't right."

Updating a previous report, Oakland Athletics SP Ben Sheets (elbow) will miss the rest of the season with a torn flexor tendon in his right elbow, according to MLB.com's Jane Lee. No surgery has been scheduled for Sheets, and there is no indication that he will need surgery in the future.
