Yankees | CC Sabathia to stay in rotation

Tue, 30 Jun 2015 13:07:06 -0700

New York Yankees SP CC Sabathia is not going to be removed from the starting rotation, according to general manager Brian Cashman. Sabathia lost again to the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim Monday, June 29, and is 3-8 with a 5.59 ERA on the season. His 1.40 WHIP puts him 83rd among 99 qualified starting pitchers. The 19 home runs he's given up in 15 starts is tops in the American League and second in all of baseball. Sabathia has allowed nine home runs in his last five starts. He has only one win in the last six weeks, and he's allowed 27 hits and 17 earned runs in 23 innings since.

Fantasy Tip: Based on Sabathia's ($4,300, 8.6% of cap) performance this year, he's not worth rostering in shallow mixed leagues, and you should shy away from him on FantasyScore for the time being. At age 34, his velocity and skills are quickly declining, and it's unlikely we'll see a return to his previous dominant form ever again.

Yankees | CC Sabathia tremendous with RISP

Mon, 22 Jun 2015 22:00:27 -0700

New York Yankees SP CC Sabathia has held opponents to a batting average of .083 (2-for-24) with runners in scoring position. He will face the Philadelphia Phillies Tuesday, June 23, a team which entered their series Monday, June 22, ranked 28th out of 30 MLB teams with a .220 RISP average.

Fantasy Tip: Sabathia ($4,800; or 9.6% of cap) is a strong FantasyScore option, especially considering that the Yankees suffered an 11-8 setback in the series opener. The Phillies offense has shown no signs of piecing together consistent efforts, so Sabathia could be in for a big night.

Yankees | CC Sabathia climbing strikeout list

Thu, 18 Jun 2015 17:04:38 -0700

New York Yankees SP CC Sabathia tied Christy Mathewson for 30th on the all-time strikeout list Thursday, June 18, against the Miami Marlins. Sabathia has 2,508 career strikeouts.

Fantasy Tip: Sabathia ($4,400, 8.8% of cap) is averaging 7.83 strikeouts per nine innings pitched this season, while also owning one of the lowest walk rates of his career, at 1.75/nine innings. Sabathia has looked horrible for most of the season so far, but 3.51 xFIP is one sign of promise. Still, Sabathia shouldn't be owned in anything other than an AL-only league.

Yankees | CC Sabathia looks to right ship at home

Wed, 17 Jun 2015 19:15:38 -0700

New York Yankees SP CC Sabathia is the probable starter for Thursday, June 17, against the Miami Marlins. He is 1-3 with a 9.00 ERA in four home starts with the opposition batting .345 against him this season.

Fantasy Tip: Sabathia ($4,400; or 8.8% of cap) shouldn’t be touched with a 10-foot pole in FantasyScore. He has been slightly improved in June, going 1-0 with a 4.32 ERA and 16 strikeouts over 16 2/3 innings. However, it will take more than three decent outings to trust him again.

Yankees | CC Sabathia struggles again

Sun, 14 Jun 2015 08:26:49 -0700

New York Yankees SP CC Sabathia allowed eight hits and four runs in five innings Saturday, June 13, against the Baltimore Orioles.

Fantasy Tip: Sabathia ($4,400, 8.8% of cap) had allowed four runs combined in his previous two starts, but he suffered yet another implosion. Sabathia just hasn't been worth the risk this season, and he should be dropped in all but AL-only leagues.

Yankees | CC Sabathia notches milestone strikeout

Sun, 07 Jun 2015 13:16:07 -0700

New York Yankees SP CC Sabathia notched his 2,500th career strikeout Sunday, June 7, in a 6-2 win over the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.

Fantasy Tip: Sabathia ($3,600, 7.2% of cap) has had a hard-luck season despite a solid ratio of 14 walks to 57 strikeouts. He is 2-7 with a 5.45 ERA. He may be worth playing more, however, as the Yankee hitters have been producing and lifting the offense.

Yankees | Michael Pineda to be skipped

Fri, 05 Jun 2015 13:44:09 -0700

New York Yankees SP Michael Pineda will have his next start skipped in order to preserve his innings for the season. SP CC Sabathia will now go Sunday, June 7, SP Masahiro Tanaka will pitch Tuesday, June 9, and SP Nathan Eovaldi will go Wednesday, June 10. Pineda's next start will come Friday, June 12.

Fantasy Tip: Pineda ($7,800, 15.6% of cap) is having a fine season with a 3.33 ERA and 9.7 strikeouts per nine innings over 11 starts. Instead he'll face the Baltimore Orioles in a week and should be a fine starting pitching option on FantasyScore. The way the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim have been hitting, Sabathia on Sunday is a pretty big risk not worth taking.

Yankees | CC Sabathia has ugly numbers against Oakland

Wed, 27 May 2015 15:12:17 -0700

New York Yankees SP CC Sabathia, who is 2-6 with a 5.67 ERA this year, is 8-10 with a 4.66 career ERA against the Oakland Athletics, who he faces Thursday, May 28.

Fantasy Tip: It's almost a given that many folks will want to use Sabathia ($3,600, 7.2% of cap) as one of their two pitchers at FantasyScore tomorrow. However, Oakland has a .576 OPS (second-worst in baseball) against lefties this season, which could make Sabathia a sneaky contrarian play on a day with few games.

Yankees | CC Sabathia awful at Yankee Stadium

Sat, 23 May 2015 13:10:46 -0700

New York Yankees SP CC Sabathia is now 0-6 with a 9.42 ERA in his last six starts at Yankee Stadium, dating back to the beginning of 2014, following his loss Saturday, May 23, against the Texas Rangers.

Fantasy Tip: Sabathia ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) surrendered seven hits, one walk and six earned runs in two and a third innings Saturday. Sabathia has allowed at least four earned runs in five of his nine starts this season. Sabathia's next start is scheduled for Thursday, May 28, in Oakland. With Sabathia's strongest outings of the season having come on the road, he'll be a sneaky GPP play on FantasyScore, with the majority of owners staying away from him after this disaster.

Yankees | CC Sabathia solid again

Sat, 16 May 2015 19:17:14 -0700

New York Yankees SP CC Sabathia won his second start in a row, allowing one run on six hits and striking out five in seven innings against the Kansas City Royals Saturday, May 16.

Fantasy Tip: Sabathia ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) appears to be slowly rounding into form, and shutting down a powerful Kansas City offense was an encouraging sign. If he keeps this up, he is a potential steal at his current price at FantasyScore.
