Yankees | CC Sabathia expected to return Wednesday

Fri, 04 Sep 2015 13:54:23 -0700

New York Yankees SP CC Sabathia (knee) has progressed enough and is expected to start against the Baltimore Orioles Wednesday, Sept. 9, according to manager Joe Girardi. At that point the Yankees will go to a six-man rotation. Sabathia threw 60 pitches in a simulated game Friday, Sept. 4, in four innings and looked good. He wore a protective brace on his troublesome knee Friday and said it was a big improvement.

Fantasy Tip: Because of how ineffective and inefficient Sabathia ($4,600, 9.2% of cap) has been this year while fighting off nagging injuries, he'll probably only be attractive in AL-only leagues to finish off the year. Returning from injury against the O's isn't the time to get cute and use him on FantasyScore, either.

Yankees | CC Sabathia hopes to return this year

Tue, 25 Aug 2015 14:47:26 -0700

New York Yankees SP CC Sabathia (knee) believes he will be able to pitch again this season, and added he would be willing to pitch out of the bullpen.

Fantasy Tip: Manager Joe Girardi speculated Sabathia ($4,600, 9.2% of cap) may be done for the season, and if Sabathia is already talking bullpen, you can safely drop him from your fantasy roster in the majority of leagues. Continue to check back for updates on the veteran.

Yankees | CC Sabathia to have second opinion

Mon, 24 Aug 2015 20:27:44 -0700

New York Yankees SP CC Sabathia (knee) said Monday, Aug. 24, that he will seek a second opinion on his knee in New York Tuesday, Aug. 25. "That's the plan, to try to be back out on the field," Sabathia said.

Fantasy Tip: Sabathia ($4,600, 9.2% of cap) could very well be out for the season. Avoid him in FantasyScore until he can officially return and prove his health. At this point it's uncertain who will take his rotation spot.

Yankees | CC Sabathia may be done for year

Mon, 24 Aug 2015 14:36:52 -0700

New York Yankees SP CC Sabathia (knee) could miss the rest of the 2015 season with knee inflammation, according to manager Joe Girardi. Results of Sabathia's MRI exam weren't available, but it's known that he suffers from a degenerative condition in his knee that almost caused him to undergo career-ending microfracture surgery last year. "The MRI really didn't show any changes from before," Girardi said. "But obviously he's pretty sore or he wouldn't have come out of the game yesterday." Sabathia hasn't won a game since July 8. Girardi will give no timetable for a return for Sabathia.

Fantasy Tip: There's a good chance that this injury ends Sabathia's ($4,600, 9.2% of cap) 2015 season, and it's possible that it's also the end of his illustrious career. If you don't have the room on your fantasy roster, don't be afraid to send Sabathia to the waiver wire now.

Yankees | CC Sabathia placed on DL

Mon, 24 Aug 2015 13:20:08 -0700

New York Yankees SP CC Sabathia (knee) was placed on the 15-day disabled list Monday, Aug. 24. He is 4-9 with a 5.27 ERA this season.

Fantasy Tip: Sabathia's ($4,600, 9.2% of cap) surgically repaired knee continues to give him problems, and could rob him of most of the remainder of the season. You can drop him if you still own him in shallow leagues. Michael Pineda ($7,100, 14.2% of cap) is set to come off the DL Wednesday and take Sabathia's spot in the rotation. Pineda should be owned everywhere, but he could be a shaky daily play in his first turn back.

Yankees | CC Sabathia likely headed to DL

Mon, 24 Aug 2015 09:12:21 -0700

New York Yankees SP CC Sabathia (knee) is expected to go on the disabled list after aggravating his surgically repaired right knee Sunday, Aug. 23. Sabathia said he's been alternating his landing to protect the knee all year, but he recently got away from that and saw the velocity on his fastball rise from the low-90s to as high as 94 mph. He had fluid drained from the knee before the All-Star break and received a cortisone shot earlier in the week.

Fantasy Tip: Sabathia ($4,600, 9.2% of cap) had been more effective of late with better velocity, but this recurring knee injury could end his season. You can drop him in shallow mixed leagues and might want to consider doing the same everywhere else. Michael Pineda is expected to return from the DL this week and replace Sabathia.

Yankees | CC Sabathia leaves with knee injury

Sun, 23 Aug 2015 11:53:50 -0700

New York Yankees SP CC Sabathia (knee) left his start against the Cleveland Indians Sunday, Aug. 23, in the third inning, because of pain in his surgically-repaired right knee.

Fantasy Tip: Before exiting the game, Sabathia ($4,600, 9.2% of cap) had allowed two runs on four hits over 2 2/3 innings, with four walks and one strikeout. Check back for further updates on his status.

Yankees | CC Sabathia turning things around?

Tue, 18 Aug 2015 14:39:58 -0700

New York Yankees SP CC Sabathia has three quality starts in his last five outings, and he has a 2.25 ERA in his last two starts after throwing 110 pitches against the Cleveland Indians his last time out. He is 17-9 with a 3.14 ERA in 35 career starts against the Minnesota Twins, who he faces Tuesday, Aug. 18. However, he allowed five runs in 5 2/3 innings against them earlier this year.

Fantasy Tip: You should be wary of clicking Sabathia ($4,600, 9.2% of cap) on FantasyScore despite his decent starts of late and good history against the Twins. He's still been a very mediocre pitcher this year and hasn't fared well at all at home this season (6.13 ERA in nine starts).

Yankees | Bryan Mitchell to start for Yankees

Mon, 17 Aug 2015 09:50:18 -0700

New York Yankees SP Bryan Mitchell will start Monday, Aug. 17, against the Minnesota Twins. CC Sabathia will be pushed back to Tuesday, Aug. 18, and Nathan Eovaldi will go on Wednesday, Aug. 19.

Fantasy Tip: Mitchell isn't available in FantasyScore for tonight's start. He has shown an ability to get strikeouts, while his walks and hits allowed are a concern to monitor going forward. This is a spot start for Mitchell to give the rotation an extra day of rest. Eovaldi ($6,500, 13.0% of cap) owners lose a two-start week, including a friendly matchup against the Indians over the weekend.

Yankees | Solid outing for CC Sabathia

Thu, 06 Aug 2015 19:46:18 -0700

New York Yankees SP CC Sabathia allowed one run on three hits and struck out eight in a no-decision against the Boston Red Sox Thursday, Aug. 6.

Fantasy Tip: Sabathia ($5,100, 10.2% of cap) dealt with dehydration in his previous start, but he bounced back nicely Thursday. That being said, he still owns a 5.34 ERA for the year, and his solid starts have been few and far between. He is a roll-of-the-dice play at FantasyScore.
