Yankees | CC Sabathia to remain in rotation

Fri, 31 Jul 2015 15:57:29 -0700

New York Yankees SP CC Sabathia (dehydration) will remain in the starting rotation with SP Luis Severino coming up from the minors to join the rotation, according to manager Joe Girardi. Severino is expected to make his major league debut against the Boston Red Sox early next week.

Fantasy Tip: The way Sabathia ($5,500, 11.0% of cap) has been pitching this year, he's not even very attractive to owners in deep mixed leagues. He's allowed the most home runs in the American League this year. Severino, the Yanks top pitching prospect, is an acceptable replacement, and he's even intriguing at FantasyScore for his debut against Boston next week at what's likely to be a very affordable FantasyScore price.

Yankees | CC Sabathia continues giving them up

Fri, 31 Jul 2015 07:09:35 -0700

New York Yankees SP CC Sabathia allowed three more home runs to the Texas Rangers Thursday, July 30, and he has allowed an American League-leading 24 home runs this season.

Fantasy Tip: Sabathia ($5,500, 11.0% of cap) is giving up 1.8 home runs per nine inning, and his strikeouts per nine have dropped from 9.4 last year to 7.5 this year. As he ages and his velocity drops, Sabathia must be perfect with his pitches or he can be hurt badly. He's now allowed 10 earned runs and five homers in his last two outings. He's a very shaky matchup play on FantasyScore.

Yankees | CC Sabathia sent to hospital

Thu, 30 Jul 2015 21:39:50 -0700

New York Yankees SP CC Sabathia (dehydration) was sent to the hospital following a 7-6 loss to the Texas Rangers Thursday, July 30, according to manager Joe Girardi. He allowed five runs on nine hits over five innings and received a no-decision.

Fantasy Tip: After a solid start following the All-Star break, Sabathia ($5,500, 11.0% of cap) has struggled in back-to-back outings. He is a shot-in-the-dark play at FantasyScore, and the reward is rarely worth the risk.

Yankees | CC Sabathia will start vs. Texas

Thu, 30 Jul 2015 11:16:37 -0700

Correcting a previous report, New York Yankees SP CC Sabathia is expected to start against the Texas Rangers Thursday, July 30. SP Bryan Mitchell was believed to be making the start, but Sabathia will be pushed ahead a day with Mitchell offering long-relief protection, if needed.

Fantasy Tip: Sabathia ($5,500, 11.0% of cap) has allowed four earned runs or more in four of his last seven starts with a 5.63 ERA and 30 strikeouts through 40 innings during the stretch. He should be viewed as a high-risk, high-reward No. 2 starting pitcher flier by FantasyScore players Thursday. He is a desperation start in year-long formats, too.

Yankees | CC Sabathia shines Sunday

Sun, 19 Jul 2015 15:39:52 -0700

New York Yankees SP CC Sabathia allowed one run on six hits and struck out seven in a no-decision against the Seattle Mariners Sunday, July 19.

Fantasy Tip: Sabathia ($4,900, 9.8% of cap) had one of his best outings of what has been an otherwise rough year. One solid start is nice, but he needs to string together a few more quality outings before he is worth using at FantasyScore.

Yankees | CC Sabathia had knee drained

Thu, 09 Jul 2015 10:32:05 -0700

New York Yankees SP CC Sabathia (knee) said that he had his knee drained during his eight days of rest before his last start Wednesday, July 8, but manager Joe Girardi said the procedure wasn't the reason why Sabathia had his start pushed back. The Yankees wanted Sabathia to start against the Oakland Athletics instead of this weekend at Fenway Park, where he owns a 5.15 career ERA.

Fantasy Tip: Sabathia ($4,900, 9.8% of cap) allowed just two earned runs but struck out only one in 5 1/3 innings in a win over the A's last night. Sabathia isn't the same pitcher as he ages, and he owns a 5.47 ERA and is striking out just 7.5 hitters per nine innings. He's a shaky matchup play on FantasyScore.

Yankees | CC Sabathia's start to be skipped

Fri, 03 Jul 2015 13:16:10 -0700

New York Yankees SP CC Sabathia's start Sunday, July 5, against the Tampa Bay Rays will be skipped. He is now scheduled to start Wednesday, July 8, against the Oakland Athletics.

Fantasy Tip: Sabathia ($4,300, 8.6% of cap) has been struggling this season with a 5.59 ERA in 16 starts. He has allowed at least one home run in seven of his last eight starts with nine home runs in his last six games. Owners on FantasyScore may want to avoid Sabathia until he is able to put some solid outings together.

Yankees | CC Sabathia to stay in rotation

Tue, 30 Jun 2015 13:07:06 -0700

New York Yankees SP CC Sabathia is not going to be removed from the starting rotation, according to general manager Brian Cashman. Sabathia lost again to the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim Monday, June 29, and is 3-8 with a 5.59 ERA on the season. His 1.40 WHIP puts him 83rd among 99 qualified starting pitchers. The 19 home runs he's given up in 15 starts is tops in the American League and second in all of baseball. Sabathia has allowed nine home runs in his last five starts. He has only one win in the last six weeks, and he's allowed 27 hits and 17 earned runs in 23 innings since.

Fantasy Tip: Based on Sabathia's ($4,300, 8.6% of cap) performance this year, he's not worth rostering in shallow mixed leagues, and you should shy away from him on FantasyScore for the time being. At age 34, his velocity and skills are quickly declining, and it's unlikely we'll see a return to his previous dominant form ever again.

Yankees | CC Sabathia tremendous with RISP

Mon, 22 Jun 2015 22:00:27 -0700

New York Yankees SP CC Sabathia has held opponents to a batting average of .083 (2-for-24) with runners in scoring position. He will face the Philadelphia Phillies Tuesday, June 23, a team which entered their series Monday, June 22, ranked 28th out of 30 MLB teams with a .220 RISP average.

Fantasy Tip: Sabathia ($4,800; or 9.6% of cap) is a strong FantasyScore option, especially considering that the Yankees suffered an 11-8 setback in the series opener. The Phillies offense has shown no signs of piecing together consistent efforts, so Sabathia could be in for a big night.

Yankees | CC Sabathia climbing strikeout list

Thu, 18 Jun 2015 17:04:38 -0700

New York Yankees SP CC Sabathia tied Christy Mathewson for 30th on the all-time strikeout list Thursday, June 18, against the Miami Marlins. Sabathia has 2,508 career strikeouts.

Fantasy Tip: Sabathia ($4,400, 8.8% of cap) is averaging 7.83 strikeouts per nine innings pitched this season, while also owning one of the lowest walk rates of his career, at 1.75/nine innings. Sabathia has looked horrible for most of the season so far, but 3.51 xFIP is one sign of promise. Still, Sabathia shouldn't be owned in anything other than an AL-only league.
