Rookie CB Travis Daniels and veteran CB Mario Edwards received more playing time alongside starting CB Sam Madison than Howard did. Howard declined a request by the Dolphins this offseason to restructure his contract. Unless he becomes a bigger contributor, Howard may not be around in 2006 when his salary would jump to $3.25 million.

He is set to receive a $1.6 million roster bonus March 1, which would give him a cap hit of $3.325 million in 2005. While the team would take a cap hit of $625,000 by releasing him, they would end up saving about $2.7 million by letting him loose.
