He'll have a $2 million base salary, and since he missed the first 39 days of the season, the prorated share of his base is $1,573,770. He will have two roster bonuses: $500,000 for five days and $250,000 for 10 days. He also has performance bonuses of $500,000 for one start and $250,000 each for two and three starts. His total base salary and earned bonuses cannot exceed $2.5 million, though.

He allowed four earned runs and seven hits in 6 1/3 innings in a loss. It was his first action since Oct. 18, 2010. "I felt good to be back out there competing," Pettitte said. "But like I said when I spoke to (Cashman) in December and we started talking about (a return), we talked about trying to get to the World Series. And for me, I feel like I'll be able to say that this was a success in late October."

He allowed five runs - three earned - and eight hits over five innings. Manager Joe Girardi said he will speak with general manager Brian Cashman in the next day or two about the plan for Pettitte. "I feel like I'm ready, and I think they're ready for me to come up," Pettitte said.
