New York Yankees SP Andy Pettitte (back) threw a bullpen session Saturday, May 25, and felt good during the session. He is scheduled to throw a simulated game Tuesday, May 28, and expects to come off the 15-day disabled list when he is eligible Saturday, June 1.

Yankees | More injury updates

Thu, 23 May 2013 14:36:55 -0700

New York Yankees general manager Brian Cashman provided some news on battered players. SP Ivan Nova (triceps, oblique) will probably return to the team after their three-game series at the Tampa Bay Rays this weekend. 3B Kevin Youkilis (back) and RP Joba Chamberlain (oblique) are on track to return a few days later. SS Eduardo Nunez (ribcage) should return by the end of the month.

The club hopes 1B Mark Teixeira (wrist) will be back sometime in June; he's eligible to come off the 60-day DL May 31. SP Andy Pettitte (back) is probably 10 days away from being activated after one or two rehab outings. C Francisco Cervelli (hand) could be back sometime in July. 3B Alex Rodriguez (hip) and SS Derek Jeter (ankle) still have undetermined post-All-Star-break timetables.

Yankees | Injury updates

Wed, 22 May 2013 15:25:30 -0700

New York Yankees SP Andy Pettitte (back) will play catch Thursday, May 23, and he'll do some long toss after that, followed by a bullpen and a simulated game. It's unclear if Pettitte will come off the disabled list when eligible next week. 1B Mark Teixeira (wrist) and 3B Kevin Youkilis (back) each received six at-bats in a simulated game Wednesday. 3B Alex Rodriguez (hip) had the day off from workouts. RP Joba Chamberlain (oblique) threw 13 pitches and is expected to have another rehab outing before coming off the DL. SP Ivan Nova (triceps) threw a light side session, but the team won't rush him back.

Fantasy Tip: There isn't an imminent return from any of these players, and the Yankees are being cautious with all of them since their low-cost replacements have picked up the slack and carried them so far.

Yankees | Andy Pettitte to DL

Fri, 17 May 2013 14:56:09 -0700

The New York Yankees placed SP Andy Pettitte (back) on the 15-day disabled list Friday, May 17, and will recall SP Vidal Nuno from the minors in a corresponding move.

Fantasy Tip: Nuno was excellent in his first start earlier this week during a doubleheader. Consider him in AL-only universes if you need some pitching help. It was thought that Pettitte's back injury was minor, so they may just want to make sure he doesn't aggravate it.

Yankees | Andy Pettitte's injury not serious

Fri, 17 May 2013 10:51:08 -0700

New York Yankees SP Andy Pettitte (back) said his trapezius muscle wasn't tight and he wasn't hurting after the game Thursday, May 16, but he's unsure if he'll have to miss his next start Tuesday, May 21, against the Baltimore Orioles. A team doctor thinks Pettitte was just dealing with a spasm. Pettitte allowed four hits and struck out five Thursday. Pettitte is 4-3 with a 3.83 ERA in eight starts this season. The team could use SP Adam Warren in the rotation if Pettitte has to miss time. Warren is 1-0 with a 1.37 ERA over 19 2/3 innings this year, and he's currently working out of the bullpen.

Fantasy Tip: Pettitte dealt with back spasms last month, too, although it isn't surprising for a pitcher who has has multiple injury issues over the past several seasons and who is turning 41 next month. Warren should only intrigue those in AL-only leagues if he receives a few starts.

Yankees | Not concerned about Andy Pettitte's injury

Thu, 16 May 2013 21:46:24 -0700

The New York Yankees didn't seem worried about SP Andy Pettitte (back) despite him leaving his start with a tight left trapezius muscle.

Fantasy Tip: Still, the elderly lefty may require a DL stint, or at least may miss one or two starts, so plan accordingly, Pettitte owners. The Yanks may need to call upon Brett Marshall, Adam Warren or Dellin Betances for a spell, but only AL players should be interested in these risky options.

Yankees | Andy Pettitte struggles with new catcher

Tue, 30 Apr 2013 11:23:38 -0700

New York Yankees SP Andy Pettitte gave up 10 hits and seven runs, both season highs, in his loss to the Houston Astros Monday, April 29, in his first start with C Austin Romine behind the dish. "He hasn't been back there, and I felt like maybe I didn't get into the rhythm I wanted to," Pettitte said of Romine. It was the most hits Pettitte had allowed since Sept. 24, 2010, against the Boston Red Sox.

Yankees | Andy Pettitte bounces back for win

Fri, 19 Apr 2013 20:08:47 -0700

New York Yankees SP Andy Pettitte (back) missed his last start due to a back injury, but he bounced back by allowing three earned runs and six hits over 7 1/3 innings in his return in a win Friday, April 19, against the Toronto Blue Jays.

Fantasy Tip: Pettitte improved to 3-0, and he has managed a solid 2.01 ERA. He isn't quite a must-start fantasy formats in mixed formats, but he is a tremendous back-end rotation in such leagues. He is an obvious must-start in AL-only play, though.
