The Chicago White Sox have released P Robert Person, according to Scott Merkin of Whitesox.MLB.com. Pitching for Triple-A Charlotte, Person had a 2-3 record with a 7.00 ERA, and had walked 25 batters and struck out 24 over 36 innings.

The Chicago Tribune's Bob Foltman is reporting Chicago White Sox P Robert Person, signed to a minor-league contract over the winter and coming off a series of injuries the last couple of years, ruptured his Achilles' tendon while working out in Phoenix and is likely to miss the season. Person was expected to compete for the fifth-starter spot in the rotation.

Updating previous reports, the Associated Press reports P Robert Person finalized his minor league contract with the Chicago White Sox. Person would be guaranteed $750,000 if he is added to the 40-man roster. He would get a $500,000 salary in 2004, and the right-hander would get performance bonuses that pay him up to $500,000 more based on a points system for starts and appearances. The White Sox would get an option for 2005 at $2.5 million plus 150 percent of performance bonuses earned in 2004, and would have to pay a $250,000 buyout if they decline the option.

Updating previous reports, Doug Padilla, of the Chicago Sun-Times, reports Chicago White Sox SP Robert Person will be guaranteed $750,000 if he makes the 40-man roster, with a base salary of $500,000 for 2004 and a $250,000 buyout for 2005. The White Sox have an option for 2005 at $2.5 million.
