Chicago White Sox SP Carlos Rodon and SP Brad Penny are battling for the fifth rotation spot.
Fantasy Tip: Where you go for fantasy value depends on who gets this job. Should Penny win the spot his fantasy value is minimal at best. If Rodon takes the job, however, he could keep it. At the very least, Rodon should be considered for a later-round pick if he wins the job.

The Kansas City Royals and free-agent SP Brad Penny (Giants) agreed to a minor-league contract Wednesday, Jan. 15, and the deal includes an invitation to spring training, according to a league source.
Fantasy Tip: Penny will challenge for a rotation spot, but it's more than likely he works in long relief, as a spot starter or perhaps is forced to start at Triple-A Omaha. Either way, fantasy owners aren't really going to want to invest in a 36-year-old who is trying to re-fire his career after taking a season off.
