"Carl will not be physically able to play this year as he recovers from his spleen removal and the complications that followed," agent Dave Pepe said. "His hope is that he can give it a try next year." Pavano isn't close to working out yet.

His agent said that Pavano suffered the injury in mid-January when he was injured while shoveling snow at his home in Vermont.
