The Boston Red Sox are still in the running to sign free-agent SP Roy Oswalt (Phillies) based on their geographical location and not the money. The Red Sox would be his third choice behind the St. Louis Cardinals and Texas Rangers.

The Pittsburgh Pirates were in discussions with free-agent SP Roy Oswalt (Phillies) and Washington Nationals SP Edwin Jackson this offseason. Both pitchers said they'd rather pitch elsewhere.

Cincinnati Reds general manager Walt Jocketty reiterated Tuesday, Feb. 7, that the team is not in on free-agent SP Roy Oswalt (Phillies). "The media has been putting us into it. We haven't had any serious discussions with him. We've had no contract with that player," Jocketty said.

Philadelphia Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. said the team has no room to re-sign SP Roy Oswalt despite keeping communication open with the hurler. Philadelphia would likely have to trade SP Joe Blanton to make it happen, which could prove very difficult.

Updating previous reports, St. Louis Cardinals GM John Mozeliak said the team isn't expected to make another significant move before spring training. That means signing free-agent SP Roy Oswalt (Phillies) is unlikely.

Cincinnati Reds general manager Walt Jocketty said the team has not had any contact with free-agent SP Roy Oswalt (Phillies) in about a week and they would have to clear some payroll if they wanted to sign Oswalt.

According to several major league sources, the Boston Red Sox, Cincinnati Reds and Philadelphia Phillies still appear to be in the running for free-agent SP Roy Oswalt (Phillies). Oswalt would have reportedly preferred to pitch closer to his home in Mississippi but the St. Louis Cardinals and Texas Rangers do not appear to have the financial flexibility to fit him into their rotation.

The Texas Rangers are still attempting to trade RP Koji Uehara and his $4 million salary, but not with the intentions of clearing space for free-agent SP Roy Oswalt (Phillies). The team wants another left-handed reliever and is open to re-signing RP Mike Gonzalez.

The Washington Nationals are targeting free-agent SP Edwin Jackson (Cardinals) and not free-agent SP Roy Oswalt (Phillies). However, they will only be able to sign Jackson if they can trade SP John Lannan.
