The Colorado Rockies are expected to option SP Jeff Francis to Triple-A Colorado Springs Thursday, June 20, as the team uses his roster spot for SP Roy Oswalt. The locker for Francis was cleared out Wednesday, June 19. There is a possibility Francis could remain in the organization, but he would need to approve the move to the minors due to his major league service time. The team wants to keep him in the organization for depth.

Fantasy Tip: Oswalt should be an immediate option for those in deep NL-only leagues. It's a bit risky to rely on him as more than a spot starter in mixed universes, however.

Fantasy Tip: A decent first matchup for him, but he's still safest as an NL-only option. Deep-mixed players should find utility for him at various points this season, though.

Colorado Rockies SP Roy Oswalt is slated to make one more start in Class AA Tulsa before coming up to start Wednesday, June 19, against the Toronto Blue Jays. SP Juan Nicasio or SP Jeff Francis may move to the bullpen, as a result.
Fantasy Tip: Oswalt could be the last SP on a deep mixed roster, but there's ample risk in his new environment. At least he'll be pitching for a National League team, though.

Colorado Rockies SP Roy Oswalt will likely make one more start in the minors before joining the Rockies rotation. He has a 2.88 ERA at Double-A Tulsa and has struck out 18 to six walks. He has been consistently throwing 92 mph with his fastball and touching 95 on occasion.
Fantasy Tip: Oswalt is still a risky pickup. His 12-to-6 curveball was always an equalizer. It's unlikely to be as effective in Coors Field. If he is still on the wire in NL-only leagues, pick him up.

Colorado Rockies SP Roy Oswalt allowed three runs and seven hits while striking out five and walking none over seven innings with Double-A Tulsa Tuesday, June 4, although he allowed two home runs. Oswalt feels strong after making his third start for Tulsa. He's giving up 14 hits while walking four and striking out 14 in 18 innings, and he'll likely make one more start for Tulsa. Oswalt can opt out of his minor league deal on June 18 and June 28 if he's not on the major league roster.
Fantasy Tip: The Rockies will have to make a decision soon on Oswalt. Jon Garland is the obvious choice to be demoted from the rotation to make room for Oswalt. Oswalt doesn't have the stuff anymore to miss major league bats consistently, though. He'll be mainly an NL-only acquisition.

Colorado Rockies SP Tyler Chatwood (triceps) is expected to miss his next start Saturday, June 8, after an MRI exam showed a slight triceps hyperextension. Trainer Keith Dugger said it was the "best-case scenario."
Fantasy Tip: Chatwood has been one of Colorado's more consistent starting pitchers this year, and it looks like he dodged a bullet. Expect him to miss only one start. It's unknown who the replacement for the Saturday start could be. Drew Pomeranz, Jeff Francis and Roy Oswalt are all options, but because it's a spot start, Pomeranz might make the most sense.

Colorado Rockies SP Roy Oswalt is 1-1 with a 3.27 ERA in two starts for Double-A Tulsa and appears very close to joining the team's starting rotation. His fastball is in the low 90s and his arm strength has not been an issue. Oswalt allowed one run and three hits while striking out six and walking one in six innings in his last start. If everything goes well in his next start Tuesday, June 4, he could be called up as early as June 11. He can opt out of his contract if he's not on the major league roster on June 18 and June 28. SP Jon Garland seems to be the most vulnerable to losing his rotation gig. SP Juan Nicasio has minor league options remaining, but manager Walt Weiss likes his talent and potential. SP Jeff Francis (ankle) is eligible to return from the disabled list and is also an option to replace Nicasio in the rotation. SP Drew Pomeranz is 6-1 at Triple-A Colorado Springs, but he is still inconsistent with his fastball and curveball. He doesn't appear ready to return to the big leagues until he gets that straightened out.
Fantasy Tip: Oswalt is worth an addition to your NL-only pitching staff if you have holes. At best, though, he'd be a spot starter based on matchups in deep mixed leagues. Wait to see if he still has the stuff to get hitters out at Coors Field.
Wed, 29 May 2013 21:55:58 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Oswalt showed improvement over his first outing with the Drillers, and he might be able to help the Rockies sooner rather than later. Still, he is only worth stashing in deeper NL-only fantasy leagues right now.
Fri, 24 May 2013 20:04:24 -0700
Colorado Rockies SP Roy Oswalt allowed three runs, four hits, three walks and three strikeouts in five innings in a minor-league appearance for Double-A Tulsa Friday, May 24. He likely has three more minor-league appearances to prove himself.
