Oakland Athletics 3B Eric Chavez is confirming that Mulder has retired. "Mark has not decided to retire," agent Gregg Clifton said. "He is reassessing his options in his efforts to come back."

The Brewers are planning to offer him a minor league deal with an invitation to Spring Training. Mulder threw a side session off a mound for the team Tuesday, Jan. 12. "He's feeling wonderful," agent Gregg Clifton said. "The final phase is finalizing his mechanics to the point where he can be successful on an every outing basis. He feels healthy and as strong as he's ever felt. If we can figure something out and get something finalized with the Brewers, I know he's very excited about the chance to work with Rick and get back with people he's very comfortable with."
