Jayson Stark, of ESPN.com, reports free-agent SP Pedro Martinez (Mets) is still seeking a prorated $5 million deal to pitch in 2009, plus incentives. Martinez is also only interested in being a starting pitcher. One team reported that Pedro was throwing only 85 mph during his workout in the Dominican Republic last week.

Agent Fern Cuza hopes to have a deal completed by next week, so that Martinez is ready to pitch in the majors around the All-Star break. According to people close to him, Martinez seems determined to start.
