Braves | Chipper Jones to have number retired

The Atlanta Braves will retire Chipper Jones' number and induct him into the team's hall of fame on June 28. The Braves announced they will hold a banquet and ceremony honoring Jones before their game against the Arizona Diamondbacks that day. His number 10 is the 10th number retired by the team, joining Hank Aaron's 44, Eddie Mathews' 41, Dale Murphy's 3, Phil Niekro's 35, Warren Spahn's 21, Greg Maddux's 31, Tom Glavine's 47, Bobby Cox's 6, and John Smoltz's 29. All major league teams retired No. 42 in honor of Jackie Robinson.

The Texas Rangers are expected to add former SP Greg Maddux to their staff. Maddux was serving as a special assistant to the general manager with the Chicago Cubs, and he will likely have a similar position in Texas.

Former SP Greg Maddux confirmed that he will not join the Arizona Diamondbacks next season as their pitching coach, according to MLB.com's Andrew Pentis. Maddux will return as a special assistant to Chicago Cubs general manager Jim Hendry next season.

Updating previous reports, ESPNChicago.com's Bruce Levine reports the Chicago Cubs special assistant Greg Maddux will help with instruction for major leaguers and minor leaguers during spring training, and he will scout throughout the season. Maddux will be at general manager Jim Hendry's disposal to evaluate minor league affiliates and to provide input on trades or potential free-agent signings.

Mark Bowman, of MLB.com, reports retired SP Greg Maddux said he would be open to be a special instructor for the Atlanta Braves during spring training. Manager Bobby Cox has said he would like Maddux to be an instructor for the team during the spring.
