Rangers | Kyle Lohse gets ripped by Angels

Tue, 19 Jul 2016 22:51:17 -0700

Texas Rangers SP Kyle Lohse gave up seven runs on six hits in 4 1/3 innings against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim on Tuesday, July 19. He walked three and failed to register a strikeout.

Fantasy Tip: Lohse was even worse against the Rangers than he was in his 2016 debut versus the Twins. Don't let the veteran anywhere near your fantasy roster.

Rangers | Kyle Lohse likely to start Tuesday

Sat, 16 Jul 2016 09:59:50 -0700

Texas Rangers SP Kyle Lohse (side) threw a bullpen session Saturday, July 16, and didn't appear to have any problems with stiffness in his right side. He is expected to face the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim Tuesday, July 19.

Fantasy Tip: Lohse struggled mightily in his start against the lowly Minnesota Twins Saturday, July 9, allowing six runs on nine hits over five innings while being tagged with the loss. He is not a recommended option in any fantasy format.

Rangers | Kyle Lohse pitched through pain

Sun, 10 Jul 2016 07:15:13 -0700

Updating a previous report, Texas Rangers SP Kyle Lohse (side) said he experienced some pain in his right side while facing the second batter of his start against the Minnesota Twins Saturday, July 9. However, he continued to keep pitching in an attempt to save the bullpen.

Fantasy Tip: It appears as though Lohse's lack of velocity on his fastball may have been caused by this injury. The 37-year-old right-hander allowed six earned runs on nine hits over five innings Saturday, with two walks and three strikeouts. Assuming he gets another opportunity to start, Lohse should be avoided in all but the deepest of AL-only fantasy leagues.

Rangers | Kyle Lohse tuned up in return

Sat, 09 Jul 2016 22:56:42 -0700

Texas Rangers SP Kyle Lohse allowed six earned runs, nine hits and two walks with three strikeouts and two homers allowed over five innings in a loss Saturday, July 9, against the Minnesota Twins. He also threw 62 of his 109 pitches for strikes in his return to the majors.

Fantasy Tip: Lohse was unable to help out the depleted bullpen for the Rangers, lasting just five frames. He is also unlikely to help out many fantasy owners, either. Avoid him in all but the deepest of AL-only leagues if he gets another chance in the Texas rotation.

Twins | Byron Buxton not in the lineup

Sat, 09 Jul 2016 17:39:10 -0700

Minnesota Twins OF Byron Buxton (knee) is out of the lineup Saturday, July 9. OF Danny Santana will play center field and bat ninth against Texas Rangers SP Kyle Lohse.

Fantasy Tip: Santana has some speed, but he doesn't have much upside batting ninth.

Rangers | Texas could promote Kyle Lohse

Fri, 17 Jun 2016 18:53:19 -0700

The Texas Rangers are seriously considering promoting P Kyle Lohse from Class AAA Round Rock to help their beleaguered bullpen, even though he has been used exclusively as a starter this season.

Fantasy Tip: Lohse is 2-3 with a 5.35 ERA in six starts for Round Rock, with nine walks and 25 strikeouts through 33 2/3 innings, although much of the damage was done in one start. The 37-year-old veteran righty is not a recommended option in any fantasy format.

Rangers | Kyle Lohse signs with Rangers

Fri, 13 May 2016 10:09:04 -0700

Free-agent SP Kyle Lohse (Brewers) signed with the Texas Rangers Friday, May 13, on a one-year deal worth $2 million with $1.5 million in performance bonuses.

Fantasy Tip: The 37-year-old fell off last season with a 5.85 ERA. He still has enough stuff to battle, but he could struggle in the American League and in the Texas heat. He's worth claiming in AL-only for depth, but he isn't worth much more.

Rangers | Texas interested in Kyle Lohse

Sun, 08 May 2016 07:21:26 -0700

The Texas Rangers have expressed interest in free-agent SP Kyle Lohse (Brewers).

Fantasy Tip: Several other clubs also appear to be pursuing the 37-year-old right-hander, who threw for interested teams Friday, May 6. If signed, he should be viewed as a back-of-the-rotation option for single-universe fantasy leagues.

Angels | Halos interested in Kyle Lohse?

Sat, 07 May 2016 11:39:29 -0700

The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim were one of several teams that watched free-agent SP Kyle Lohse (Brewers) throw at a recent showcase, which reportedly went well.

Fantasy Tip: The Angels have a need for starting pitching following the recent season-ending injury to SP Garrett Richards (elbow). Lohse went 5-13 with a 5.85 ERA in 37 games (22 starts) for the Brewers in 2015 and is an innings eater who doesn't rack up many strikeouts. If signed, the 37-year-old right-hander should be viewed as nothing more than a back-of-the rotation option for AL-only fantasy leagues.

MLB | Kyle Lohse looking for the right team

Mon, 18 Apr 2016 14:51:14 -0700

Free-agent SP Kyle Lohse (Brewers) is looking for the "right fit" before signing a contract. He has received interest from the Detroit Tigers, Baltimore Orioles and Cincinnati Reds, and the Orioles have offered Lohse a contract.

Fantasy Tip: Lohse has a 5.8 K/9 mark during his 15-year career, and his ERA ballooned to 5.85 last season. There is extremely limited fantasy upside here, especially if Loshe signs in the American League. He is an innings eater who likely won't help in any particular category, and those are the worst pitchers to own in fantasy.
