Sun, 22 Feb 2009 11:39:35 -0800 New York Yankees SP Jason Johnson (retina) has been diagnosed with cancer of the right retina, according to Kat O'Brien and Ken Davidoff of New York Newsday. After visiting an optometrist in Tampa for new contact lenses earlier this month, Johnson was sent to a retina specialist when the doctor noticed something unusual. He was told he had choriodial melanoma of the right retina, and had a radioactive plaque put in his eye for several days. There is a 98 percent recovery rate for people with his stage of cancer. For now, his vision remains blurry, he is not allowed to pitch outside and he has been limited to minimal baseball activities.
