Mon, 30 Jan 2012 15:09:45 -0800 Atlanta Braves SP Tim Hudson (back) has made good progress since undergoing back surgery in late November, but the team isn't interested in rushing him back this spring. He could be a few weeks behind the other starters, which means he may not make his season debut until late April or early May. He was not in attendance at the team's voluntary early throwing program Monday, Jan. 30. SPs Julio Teheran or Randall Delgado could begin the season in the rotation in place of Hudson.

"It's too early to know at this point. Everything is going well, he just may be slightly behind the other guys. Or he may not be. Or, we may choose to be a little more careful with him in spring, depending on how he responds. So there's some unknowns there, but it's going well so far. Quite frankly that's the beauty of having our pitching depth - if we need to slow him down, we have the personnel to allow that to happen."
Tue, 06 Dec 2011 09:20:20 -0800 The Atlanta Braves said SP Tim Hudson (back) will be ready for spring training after undergoing surgery to fix a herniated disc in his back, but Hudson is not so optimistic that he'll be ready. In addition to Hudson, SP Tommy Hanson (shoulder) is coming off shoulder issues, so the team may be hesitant to trade SP Jair Jurrjens even if they receive a significant package in return.

"Based on today's procedure, we are happy that this will help alleviate some of the discomfort that Tim felt," general manager Frank Wren said. "The prognosis is positive for him to be ready for spring training and to be able to pitch during the spring training schedule."

Manager Fredi Gonzalez said Hudson went to the hospital after the game "to get some fluids in him." He added that it was nothing serious, and that Hudson "has a history" of cramping.
