The Cincinnati Enquirer reports the Cincinnati Reds have no clear-cut closer candidate to open the 2007 season upon the release of RP Dustin Hermanson, but Reds manager Jerry Narron indicated RP David Weathers and RP Mike Stanton can close games if need be.

The Cincinnati Reds have released RP Dustin Hermanson, according to the Associated Press. The team wanted to send him to Triple-A Louisville, but Hermanson wanted to be released instead.

C. Trent Rosenhaus, of the Cincinnati Post, reports Cincinnati Reds RP Dustin Hermanson could be a candidate to win the team's vacant starting closer position. Hermanson, who hasn't allowed a base runner in three spring appearances, saved 34 games for the Chicago White Sox in 2005.

C. Trent Rosenhaus, of the Cincinnati Post, reports the Cincinnati Reds still do not have a pitcher considered to be the starting closer. Reds manager Jerry Narron has said since the Winter meetings that he would like to use a combination of RP Mike Stanton and RP David Weathers. RP Dustin Hermanson and RP Eddie Guardado are other possibilities.

According to The Dayton Daily News, Cincinnati Reds RP Dustin Hermanson (flu), who was expected to make his third one-inning appearance on March 14, was sent away from the complex when he reported flu-like symptoms.

Updating a previous post, The Dayton Daily News reports the Cincinnati Reds signed free-agent RP Dustin Hermanson (White Sox) to a one-year minor-league contract. He is expected to report to Sarasota on March 2 and be tossed into the bullpen mix along with RP Mike Stanton and RP David Weathers, the two leading candidates for saves at the moment.
