According to The Baltimore Sun, Roberto Alomar is among 15 first-time candidates on this year's Hall of Fame ballot. Edgar Martinez, Barry Larkin and Fred McGriff also are new to the ballot this year. There are 26 candidates, three more than last year. Also on the ballot for the first time are Kevin Appier, Ellis Burks, Andres Galarraga, Pat Hentgen, Mike Jackson, Eric Karros, Ray Lankford, Shane Reynolds, David Segui, Robin Ventura and Todd Zeile.

The Associated Press reports SP Pat Hentgen filed for free agency Thursday, Nov. 11. Hentgen, who had previously retired from the Toronto Blue Jays in July 2004, came off the voluntarily retired list in early November. Should he decide he wants to play again, he can sign with any team.

Hentgen gave up three walks and six runs leaving him with a 0-4 record for June and an ERA over 8.00

Spencer Fordin, of BlueJays.MLB.com, reports Toronto Blue Jays SP Pat Hentgen, due to his struggles this season, may be pulled from the starting rotation. The Blue Jays have yet to officially announce their starter for the team's game Friday, July 2, the day Hentgen is next scheduled to appear on the mound.
