"They're good friends and old teammates, and Carp was really chomping at the bit for this opportunity to pitch against Roy on full rest in a huge Game 5," OF Matt Holliday said.

Philadelphia Phillies SP Roy Halladay allowed three earned runs, three hits and a walk over eight innings in a win in Game 1 of the National League Division Series against the St. Louis Cardinals. Halladay got off to a shaky start, but ended up retiring his final 21 batters. He also struck out eight batters in the 105-pitch outing. Anything short of a no-hitter is a step back for Halladay, who held the Cincinnati Reds without any hits in Game 1 of the NLDS last season.

Philadelphia Phillies SP Roy Halladay tossed his 20th career shutout over the Houston Astros Wednesday, Sept. 14. With the effort, he helped the team clinch a playoff berth for the fifth straight season. He finished with seven strikeouts and one walk for his first shutout of the year. Halladay allowed six hits for his National League-leading eighth complete game of the season.
