Free-agent P Kelvim Escobar (Mets) is attempting a comeback as a reliever, according to Jon Paul Morosi of FOXSports.com. He is expected to throw for interested teams in March. Escobar has made one appearance at the major league level since 2007.

Updating previous reports, The Star-Ledger's Brian Costa reports New York Mets RP Kelvim Escobar (shoulder) is no longer in the running to be the team's set-up man and will likely begin the season on the disabled list. RP Ryota Igarashi is the most likely candidate to fill the role, although P Fernando Nieve could also be a late-inning reliever if he is not named the fifth starter.
