Mark Eckel, of the Times, reports free agent WR Kevin Johnson (Lions) has received interest from several teams, the New England Patriots, Green Bay Packers and San Francisco 49ers, about returning to the NFL. Johnson has recovered from an Achilles tendon injury that ended his season in 2005 but is still sore the next day from working out, "So I'm not going to put myself through all that. I'm not going to a team not be able to do what they want me to do and then get cut anyway." Johnson has not ruled out retirement but would like to return to the NFL.

As the club's third receiver, Johnson brings a veteran presence to a group of promising, young prospects. "I think he really helps the group out immensely," position coach Fred Graves said. Brent Jones, of the Baltimore Sun, reports Baltimore Ravens QB Kyle Boller remains optimistic about the club's future despite the offseason overhaul on offense this year with the defections of WRs Travis Taylor and Kevin Johnson and additions of new offensive coordinator Jim Fassel and quarterbacks coach Rick Neuheisel. "Ultimately, in the long run, [the changes] are really going to help us," Boller said. "There needed to be change. We need to be more productive on offense. We need to get the passing game going." Boller is also optimistic he will continue to progress as the team's starting quarterback. "Me coming into my third year, my numbers have gotten better each year, and I think they will drastically improve," Boller said.
