Former Los Angeles Dodgers SP Darren Dreifort told MLB.com's Ken Gurnick he feels healthy enough to consider attempting a comeback. Dreifort retired prematurely in 2004 in part due to a tissue disorder that forced him to undergo 12 operations on his elbow, hip, knee, shoulder and ankle.

ESPN.com reports the Los Angeles Dodgers paid P Darren Dreifort $13 million of their $83 million payroll in 2005. Dreifort, who has since retired, didn't play at all last year after injuries derailed and ended his career.

Updating a previous item, Ken Gurnick, of Dodgers.MLB.com, reports Los Angeles Dodgers trainer Stan Johnston thinks P Darren Dreifort (shoulder) may have thrown his last major league pitch, as the hurler is due to undergo shoulder surgery Feb. 15 that would mark his 14th operation as a member of the Dodgers. "He has given his body to the game," said Johnston. Dreifort will remain on the 40-man roster, but will be on the disabled list, and he will receive $13.4 million for his last year of a five-year deal. Los Angeles will get back around half that sum via disability insurance.

The Associated Press reports Los Angeles Dodgers RP Darren Dreifort (shoulder) is due to have shoulder surgery performed Feb. 15, marking his fourth operation of the offseason. He previously had left knee surgery Jan. 6, hip surgery in September, and a knee operation in October. His recovery time is uncertain, but Dodgers general manager Paul DePodesta said Thursday, Feb. 3, "... I think he still has a long road in front of him."

Updating previous items, the Associated Press reports Los Angeles Dodgers RP Darren Dreifort (knee) had ligament surgery Friday, Oct. 22, on his knee. After also undergoing hip surgery in September, his availability for the 2005 season, the last under a five-year deal, is in question.

The Los Angeles Times reports Los Angeles Dodgers SP Darren Dreifort (hip/knee) is scheduled to undergo surgery Friday, Sept. 10 in Pittsburgh on his bothersome right hip. Dreifort is expected to undergo more complex surgery later on a severely sprained anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee that probably would sideline him well into next season.

Updating an ongoing story, The Los Angeles Daily News's Rich Hammond reports Los Angeles Dodgers RP Darren Dreifort (knee) will have his third consecutive season ended by knee surgery. Dreifort suffered a Grade 2 sprain of the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee in the eighth inning of the Monday, Aug. 16 game and likely will go on the 15-day disabled list Aug. 18. Team doctors will wait two weeks until swelling goes down in the knee before determining whether to schedule surgery. If he has it, Dreifort's recovery time would be approximately six months and would push his recovery into spring training.
