The San Francisco Giants would not say why a proposed minor league deal with RP Elmer Dessens fell through, but his name was erased from the whiteboard in manager Bruce Bochy's office that lists all the players in camp, reports Henry Schulman, of the San Francisco Chronicle. It is likely that the physical might have been an issue.

New York Mets manager Jerry Manuel said he could use a bullpen-by-committee that would include RPs Hisanori Takahashi, Bobby Parnell, Manny Acosta, Pedro Feliciano or Elmer Dessens, according to ESPNNewYork.com's Adam Rubin. "(I'll) go matchups and see what fits best and who's pitching well," Manuel said. "It's whoever I think is hot and I think it could be safe to say that you'll see (Hisanori) Takahashi getting a shot at closing games. Could be safe to say you'll see (Bobby) Parnell or (Manny) Acosta, maybe (Pedro) Feliciano, maybe (Elmer) Dessens. Bullpen by committee."
