Mets | NY going to six-man rotation

Wed, 27 May 2015 12:15:04 -0700

The New York Mets will use a six-man pitching rotation throughout early to mid-August once SP Dillon Gee is added to the rotation. Gee will join SPs Jacob deGrom, Bartolo Colon, Matt Harvey, Noah Syndergaard and Jon Niese. The idea is to shave about 30 innings per pitcher and prevent so many arms from going over 200 innings in one season.

Fantasy Tip: This isn't a surprise. With such young arms as Gee ($3,900, 7.8% of cap), Harvey ($9,100, 18.2% of cap), deGrom ($7,500, 15.0% of cap) and Syndergaard ($6,000, 12.0% of cap), the Mets are interested in preserving the health of pitchers. No pitcher will likely get two starts in a week, which could hurt in yearly leagues, but you will still get one start a week in FantasyScore.

Mets | Bartolo Colon struggles in start

Wed, 20 May 2015 19:44:27 -0700

New York Mets SP Bartolo Colon allowed nine runs on 11 hits in 4 1/3 innings against the St. Louis Cardinals Wednesday, May 20.

Fantasy Tip: Colon ($6,900, 13.8% of cap) has struggled in his last three starts by allowing 17 earned runs in that span. Colon is scheduled to face the Philadelphia Phillies in his next start and could be a solid starting option on FantasyScore.

Mets | Bartolo Colon likes facing Cards

Wed, 20 May 2015 14:07:35 -0700

New York Mets SP Bartolo Colon, who is going for his seventh win of the season against the St. Louis Cardinals Wednesday, May 20, has a 1.17 ERA and has won all three of his starts against the Cardinals since 2013. He is 4-0 in six career outings against St. Louis. Colon hasn't walked a batter in 45 1/3 innings, the longest active stretch in baseball without a walk. He allowed six runs in five innings in his last start, the worst of the young season for him.

Fantasy Tip: Colon ($6,900, 13.8% of cap) doesn't have the velocity to blow people away anymore in his advanced age, and his 7.4 K/9 rate is likely to come down. If he isn't hitting spots, he'll be hit hard like he did in his last start. The Cardinals aren't the best matchup for you to use Colon in at FantasyScore.

Mets | Bartolo Colon unlikely to be trade chip

Thu, 30 Apr 2015 07:30:05 -0700

New York Mets SP Bartolo Colon is unlikely to be traded this season unless it somehow improved the team's chance at the playoffs.

Fantasy Tip: Colon is 4-1 with a 3.31 ERA and 25 K's in 32 2/3 innings. At $5,200 (10.4% of your cap), he's at a decent price for a midrange start on FantasyScore.

Mets | Bartolo Colon relying on heater

Wed, 29 Apr 2015 14:29:07 -0700

New York Mets SP Bartolo Colon dealt with a blister on his throwing hand that affected him on offspeed pitches, and no qualified pitcher has thrown a higher percentage of fastballs than Colon (88.1%) this season. Colon also led the league last year in fastball percentage (82.6%) and in 2013 (85.5%).

Fantasy Tip: Colon ($5,200, 10.4% of cap) has won the first four starts of the season for the first time in his long career. He already beat the Marlins this year back on April 17 and allowed just one earned run in seven innings. Colon was 1-1 with a 2.45 ERA against Miami last year in 14 2/3 innings, too. Don't expect his 7.96 K/9 to last all year with a predictable arsenal. With things going in his favor right now, he's not a bad candidate for your daily rosters, but don't expect many strikeouts the second time around against Miami.

Mets | Bartolo Colon first to four wins

Thu, 23 Apr 2015 14:38:12 -0700

New York Mets SP Bartolo Colon became the first pitcher to four wins by beating the Atlanta Braves Thursday, April 23. Colon gave up three runs in six innings to win his first four starts of the season for the first time in his career. He has struck out 23 hitters and walked only one so far in 2015.

Fantasy Tip: Despite Colon's ($4,100, 8.2% of cap) nice start, he remains mainly a matchup play at FantasyScore. His K/9 of 8.10 is prime for regression as the season advances, too.

Mets | Bartolo Colon a Brave killer?

Wed, 22 Apr 2015 10:07:42 -0700

New York Mets SP Bartolo Colon is 5-2 with a 2.25 career ERA against the Atlanta Braves in seven appearances, and he has never gone less than seven innings against them and never allowed more than three runs.

Fantasy Tip: Colon ($4,100, 8.2% of cap) is an under-the-radar play at FantasyScore tonight against the Braves. Look to him if you want to save some money for the rest of your lineup.

Mets | Bartolo Colon continues solid start

Fri, 17 Apr 2015 20:07:22 -0700

New York Mets SP Bartolo Colon improved to 3-0 on the year with a win over the Miami Marlins Friday, April 17, lowering his ERA to 2.25.

Fantasy Tip: Colon ($4,100, 8.2% of cap) has allowed three earned runs or less and struck out at least five in all three starts, and while he is unlikely to sustain his current pace, there is no reason you can't ride Colon at FantasyScore until he cools off.

Mets | Bartolo Colon sharp in opener

Mon, 06 Apr 2015 20:20:06 -0700

New York Mets SP Bartolo Colon allowed just one run and three hits with a walk and eight strikeouts over six innings in a win Monday, April 6, against the Washington Nationals. He threw 59 of his 86 pitches for strikes. At 41, he is the oldest opening day starting pitcher since 2006.

Fantasy Tip: Colon proved he still has a little bit left in the tank. Colon will be opposed by Atlanta's Alex Wood on the road Sunday in what appears to be a favorable matchup. At $5,600 (or 11.2% of cap) he is a solid mid-level value in FantasyScore.

Mets | Bartolo Colon starting Monday

Mon, 06 Apr 2015 04:00:25 -0700

New York Mets SP Bartolo Colon will start Monday, April 6, against the Washington Nationals.

Fantasy Tip: This is not a good matchup for Colon ($5,600, 11.2% of cap) on many levels. The Nationals are pegged by many as the best team in baseball and they snagged a prize free agent in Scherzer, which will make this matchup more difficult. Add in a 1-4 mark and 4.50 ERA against the Nats last season, and you have the makings of a bad start waiting to happen. He isn't worth the money.
