Kansas City Royals SP Bruce Chen had thrown just 75 pitches over six scoreless innings Friday, April 6, against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. Manager Ned Yost pulled Chen, as he was about to go through the Angels lineup for the third time. "He was rolling," Yost said, "but it was the third time around through (2B Howard Kendrick), (1B Albert Pujols) and (OF Torii Hunter). You don't just look at 75 pitches and you quit. You go by the game. We had a lot of factors that went into that game."

Kansas City Royals manager Ned Yost doesn't want any catcher working more than two days in a row. C Humberto Quintero made the start Saturday, April 7, and he will also catch SPs Jonathan Sanchez and Danny Duffy. C Brayan Pena will receive against SPs Bruce Chen and Luis Mendoza. "I don't want anybody catching more than two days in a row," Yost said. "I'm trying to keep a balance. I like Quintero with (SP Luke Hochevar), Sanchez and Duffy because he's more of a veteran presence with those guys."

Kansas City Royals SP Bruce Chen was tremendous in his first opening day start, allowing just three hits with no walks over six scoreless innings in a no-decision Friday, April 6, against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. He also struck out four batters in the 75-pitch effort.
