Cleveland Indians SP Bruce Chen had his contract purchased from Triple-A Columbus Saturday, May 9. He'll serve as their fifth starter.
Fantasy Tip: Chen has bounced around but always seems to resurface. He really has little FantasyScore appeal unless he has discovered a way to miss more bats.

Cleveland Indians SP Bruce Chen is open to an assignment to Triple-A Columbus, according to manager Terry Francona. The skipper informed Chen Tuesday, March 24, that he would not make the opening day roster. The team has given Chen the ability to opt out of his contract if a major league opportunity presents itself with another organization.
Fantasy Tip: Chen might re-surface at some point due to poor performances or if injuries crop up. For now, don't bother with him in any fantasy format, though.

Cleveland Indians SP Bruce Chen has been informed Tuesday, March 24, that he will make the regular season roster, but he can remain in camp.
Fantasy Tip: Scratch Chen off those AL-only fantasy cheat sheet, although it wouldn't be a surprise to see him go to Triple-A Columbus and work his way back up at some point this season.

Cleveland Indians SPs T.J. House, Danny Salazar, Zach McAllister, Josh Tomlin, Shaun Marcum and Bruce Chen will battle for the two open spots in the team's starting rotation.
Fantasy Tip: Expect Salazar and House to break camp with the jobs. While Tomlin and McAllister tip the scales slightly in AL-only formats, the other two hold no fantasy value. Last season, Salazar failed to follow up his monster 2013 second half and even spent time in the minors. He possess a high-end arsenal of pitches and significant upside, especially in the punch-out department, but shouldn't be viewed as anything more than a late-round flier in mixed leagues. House is a flier in deep mixed leagues, but he is likely be left to AL-only formats. He was better with Cleveland, than he was throughout his entire time at Class AAA, which highlights the risk associated with his fantasy stock.

The Cleveland Indians will let SP Bruce Chen compete for a spot in the rotation. If he is unable to secure a starting job the team will also look at him as a relief pitcher.
Fantasy Tip: Chen seemingly has been around forever, and the past few seasons he has been forgotten about on draft day in AL-only fantasy leagues. However, he seems to re-emerge as a useful option from time to time when he gets on a roll, and he just isn't going away. Don't be surprised in May or June if you're looking for a pitcher on the waiver wire and are tempted to add Chen again.
