Updating previous reports, St. Louis Cardinals SP Chris Carpenter (shoulder) has greater shoulder flexibility and could start a throwing program in the next four weeks.

St. Louis Cardinals general manager John Mozeliak said Monday, May 7, that the absence of SP Chris Carpenter (shoulder, neck) remains "open-ended." Carpenter performed well on a series of strengthening exercises last week, but he hasn't returned to the mound. Carpenter faces a minimum of five to six weeks of recovery and conditioning once he returns to the mound.

St. Louis Cardinals SP Chris Carpenter (shoulder) will perform strength tests on his shoulder this weekend to determine if he's ready for a throwing program. Carpenter is still a candidate to land on the 60-day disabled list.

St. Louis Cardinals SP Chris Carpenter (shoulder) will undergo more tests this week on the nerves in his throwing shoulder, and if everything tests out, he could be cleared to take the next step in his rehab. "He's still experiencing (the nerve-related discomfort) but not to the degree prior to being shut down," general manager John Mozeliak said. There is no timetable for him to resume a throwing program, and he'll have to go through a full spring training regimen to build up his arm strength and stamina.

St. Louis Cardinals general manager John Mozeliak said Friday, April 6, that he anticipates giving an update on SP Chris Carpenter (shoulder) during the team's series against the Cincinnati Reds next week. Carpenter is back in St. Louis where he continues to work to strengthen his right shoulder.

The St. Louis Cardinals plan on updating SP Chris Carpenter's (shoulder) status at some point next week. He is currently in St. Louis trying to strengthen his shoulder.

Updating a previous report, the St. Louis Cardinals placed SP Chris Carpenter (shoulder) on the 15-day disabled list Sunday, April 1. The move is retroactive to March 26, so Carpenter will be eligible to return April 10.

The St. Louis Cardinals optioned P Victor Marte, C Bryan Anderson and INF Eugenio Velez to Triple-A Memphis Friday, March 30, in order to finalize their opening day 25-man roster. OFs Shane Robinson and Erik Komatsu earned bench spots. OF Allen Craig (knee), 2B Skip Schumaker (oblique) and SP Chris Carpenter (shoulder) will begin on the disabled list.
