Mon, 07 May 2012 19:16:40 -0700 St. Louis Cardinals general manager John Mozeliak said Monday, May 7, that the absence of SP Chris Carpenter (shoulder, neck) remains "open-ended." Carpenter performed well on a series of strengthening exercises last week, but he hasn't returned to the mound. Carpenter faces a minimum of five to six weeks of recovery and conditioning once he returns to the mound.

"He's still experiencing (the nerve-related discomfort) but not to the degree prior to being shut down," general manager John Mozeliak said. There is no timetable for him to resume a throwing program, and he'll have to go through a full spring training regimen to build up his arm strength and stamina.
