Dodgers | Josh Beckett throws

Mon, 25 Aug 2014 20:11:04 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers SP Josh Beckett (hip) threw from a seated position over the weekend, limiting the stress on his injured hip and groin muscle. The team has yet to rule Beckett out for the remainder of the season. "The fact that he's trying to throw tells you he's trying to get himself ready in one shape or another," manager Don Mattingly said.

Dodgers | Josh Beckett still not throwing

Tue, 19 Aug 2014 22:21:57 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers SP Josh Beckett (hip) has not yet resumed throwing since landing on the 15-day disabled list Aug. 4 due to a left hip impingement. There is some doubt if he will be able to return this season. "At this point, he's been out a little bit," manager Don Mattingly said Tuesday, Aug. 19. "It's going to take him awhile before he can start throwing. Once that happens, it's going to take him a little while to get built up. Is there going to be enough time? I'm not sure."

Fantasy Tip: Fantasy owners in re-draft leagues can safely drop Beckett, as it is unlikely he will be able to return for anything more than a start or two, if even that. Should he be able to return after rosters expand Sept. 1, he could very well return in a middle relief role.

Dodgers | Josh Beckett to undergo more tests

Thu, 14 Aug 2014 14:16:51 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers SP Josh Beckett (hip) will not come off the disabled list when eligible Tuesday, Aug. 19, according to manager Don Mattingly. Beckett will undergo more tests, and surgery "is a possibility."

Fantasy Tip: Beckett's season will surely be over if he needs surgery. Even if he doesn't need to go under the knife, he probably won't be of much use for the rest of the season. Cutting him in mixed leagues is advised.

Dodgers | Josh Beckett could return this season

Thu, 14 Aug 2014 09:03:33 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers SP Josh Beckett (hip) will not be activated from the 15-day disabled list when eligible but could pitch again at some point this season, according to manager Don Mattingly. Mattingly said Beckett is expected to have his injured hip examined in the near future.

Dodgers | Josh Beckett to rest

Fri, 08 Aug 2014 15:23:39 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers SP Josh Beckett (groin, hip) will rest for 10 days to two weeks.

Fantasy Tip: If Beckett returns for the regular season, it probably won't be until mid- to late September. The only place to really hold onto him would be a deep NL-only league.

Mets | Josh Beckett could return this year

Fri, 08 Aug 2014 15:20:46 -0700

Updating previous reports, Los Angeles Dodgers SP Josh Beckett (hip, groin), who is also dealing with a groin strain, could return to pitch later this year, according to manager Don Mattingly.

Fantasy Tip: That's good news for Beckett. However, don't hold out hope for much contribution from him for the remainder of the regular season. You can probably drop him in the majority of single-year formats at this point.

Dodgers | Josh Beckett's season over?

Fri, 08 Aug 2014 15:08:35 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers SP Josh Beckett (hip) has a torn labrum and cysts in his left hip that won't heal without surgery. Beckett's teammates are saying he'll miss the rest of the year, and he might decide to retire.

Fantasy Tip: Ouch. Sad news for one of baseball's veteran pitchers. It might be wise to wait for an official announcement from the team that he'll miss the rest of the year, but you can safely drop him in shallow formats, at least. Roberto Hernandez's stock will go up a bit more now.

Dodgers | Josh Beckett to DL

Fri, 08 Aug 2014 15:05:55 -0700

The Los Angeles Dodgers placed SP Josh Beckett (hip) on the 15-day disabled list with a left hip impingement Friday, Aug. 8, and activated SP Roberto Hernandez to the active roster in a corresponding move. The DL stint is retroactive to Aug. 4.

Fantasy Tip: The Dodgers' trade for Hernandez makes more sense now. Beckett, given his slow-healing ways and extensive injury history, could be out for an extended period. Hernandez isn't anything special, but his value will increase on a better squad. Consider starting him based on matchups.

Dodgers | Josh Beckett likely headed to the DL

Thu, 07 Aug 2014 13:51:03 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers SP Josh Beckett (hip) had an MRI on his hip and will likely be placed on the disabled list. SP Roberto Hernandez is pitching in his place Friday, Aug. 8.

Fantasy Tip: This could be a long-term injury, so prepare to be without Beckett for the foreseeable future. Check back for further updates. Hernandez's fantasy value benefits significantly, and he is an option in deep mixed leagues. Hernandez should be owned in all NL-only formats. Although, Friday's start against the Milwaukee Brewers is unfavorable.

Dodgers | Roberto Hernandez will start Friday

Thu, 07 Aug 2014 13:07:21 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers SP Roberto Hernandez said he will start Friday, Aug. 8, against the Milwaukee Brewers. SP Josh Beckett was originally scheduled to pitch Friday.

Fantasy Tip: Check back for updates on Beckett's status. He is likely just being skipped this rotation or being pushed back a few days. The Brewers are an unfavorable matchup for Hernandez.
