Los Angeles Dodgers SP Josh Beckett (thumb) said his thumb is no worse or better than when he injured it 10 days ago. He'll likely have his right thumb re-examined.

Los Angeles Dodgers SP Josh Beckett (thumb) was removed from his start early Friday, March 14, with right thumb soreness.
Fantasy Tip: Beckett pushed it a little too far, it appears, and now he's probably unlikely to start the season as the team's No. 5 starter. That distinction will now likely fall to either Paul Maholm, Stephen Fife or another.

The Los Angeles Dodgers' fifth rotation spot isn't sealed up yet with SP Chad Billingsley (elbow) returning from Tommy John surgery and SP Josh Beckett (thumb) dinged up. SP Paul Maholm went only 2 2/3 frames Thursday, March 13, and allowed six runs on six hits on a pair of home runs. Maholm will likely be in the bullpen if he cannot beat out Beckett for the final spot. Los Angeles won't need a fifth starter until the middle of April, however. SPs Stephen Fife and Seth Rosin may be options for the rotation if Beckett or Maholm don't work out.

Los Angeles Dodgers SP Josh Beckett (thumb) plans to pitch through a sprained right thumb and make his start Friday, March 14. "I don't want to fall behind," said Beckett. "I think I can get through it."
Fantasy Tip: Beckett knows he needs to pitch this spring to lock up the No. 5 rotation spot, but fighting through his thumb injury could make things worse. If he doesn't aggravate his thumb, expect Beckett to open the year rounding out the Dodgers rotation.

Los Angeles Dodgers SP Josh Beckett (thumb) is dealing with a sprained right thumb that might cause him to miss his next spring start Friday, March 14. He suffered the injury closing a clubhouse door roughly 10 days ago. Beckett struggled during a bullpen Wednesday, March 12, and was limited to fastballs. He's not expected to make a regular season start until mid-April due to multiple off days.
Fantasy Tip: This injury shouldn't affect Beckett's availability in April at all.

Los Angeles Dodgers SP Josh Beckett (shoulder) has impressed the team with his stuff this spring. He has a downward angle in his delivery and a greatly improved breaking ball.
Fantasy Tip: Beckett is one of those late-round flier picks, but this news is encouraging and could make him a real steal on draft day. Don't expect to get the Beckett of old, but the soon-to-be 34-year-old could be in for a high-strikeout season with his improved stuff.

Los Angeles Dodgers SP Josh Beckett (shoulder) tossed two innings on the minor league side of camp Tuesday, Feb. 25, and he continues to feel no numbness in his fingers following thoracic outlet surgery last year. Beckett expects to pitch in a game in five days.

Los Angeles Dodgers SP Josh Beckett (shoulder) is expected to battle SP Paul Maholm for the No. 5 starting spot this spring. "Josh is doing really well, but he's coming off tough surgery and there's not a lot of history with that surgery, so we'll see where things go," manager Don Mattingly said. Beckett said his thoracic outlet syndrome surgery was much more severe than former St. Louis Cardinals SP Chris Carpenter's.
Fantasy Tip: Mattingly suggests that Beckett's starting spot is his to lose. Beckett could be a bounce-back candidate if he is indeed fully healthy, but there will continue to be doubts.

Los Angeles Dodgers SP Josh Beckett (shoulder) threw a 30-pitch bullpen session Monday, Feb. 10, and didn't have any setbacks. His thoracic outlet syndrome surgery has solved the issue he's had with numbness in his fingers "for year." Manager Don Mattingly made it sound as though Beckett's spot as the fifth starter is his to lose. "I'm not tentative," Beckett said. "I'm going to throw as hard as I can and see what happens. Right now, I feel great. I'll throw the ball until I blow out and I'm hoping that's not for a few more years."

Los Angeles Dodgers SP Josh Beckett (shoulder) said he'll "no doubt" be ready for the start of the season after having thoracic outlet syndrome surgery.
