The North County Times reports San Diego Padres SP Andy Ashby (elbow) reported no pain in his surgically repaired elbow after pitching for Class-A Lake Elsinore on Aug. 22. He is next scheduled for two rehab starts with Triple-A Portland, the first one set for Aug. 27. Ashby will pitch as a reliever upon his return.

He had been re-assigned to Class-A Lake Elsinore, although just as a formality, and was to be placed on the disabled list.

Ashby wouldn't be eligible to pitch until May 1 because the Padres didn't offer him arbitration and he didn't agree to re-sign by Dec. 7.
