Seattle Mariners SP Kevin Appier (calf) said he would be willing to accept an offer to report to Triple-A Tacoma, according to Doug Miller of Mariners.MLB.com, if the parent club decided not to keep him on their Opening Day roster. This news comes after Appier had previously stated that he would retire again if given a minor league assignment. "I would consider it, because I had a small tear in my calf, and that's what slowed me down," he said. "I was doing well before that, plus I probably have to build my pitch count up. I'd picture it like a continuation of Spring Training if I went down there. I don't want to be a long-term Triple-A pitcher." Appier is 2-0 with a 2.84 ERA this spring, over 6-1/3 exhibition innings.
